Chapter 8: Big Fight

Meanwhile, Maddie, Petey, and Lil' Petey were finishing up, with Lil' Petey constantly asking about his grandmother.

"But why, guys?" Lil' Petey asked.

"I told you, I don't wanna talk about it anymore," Petey said sternly.

"But why?" Lil' Petey asked.

"Because you're just a kid," Petey said as Maddie wiped Lil' Petey's face off with a napkin. "You couldn't possibly understand what I've gone through."

" I can try," Lil' Petey said.

"Look, your Grampa, he abandoned me and your mom," Petey said, picking up Lil' Petey and placing him on the floor. "He left when I was just a kitten. He left when... He left when my mom was sick?"

"Your mommy was sick?" Lil' Petey asked.

"Yeah," Petey said as she and Petey walked to the sink with the plates.

"She got better though, right?" Lil' Petey asked.

Petey and Maddie washed the plates in the sink, not answering Lil' Petey's question. "Right, guys?" Petey asked. They dried the plates, silent.

Petey and Maddie placed the plates on the counter and crouched down to Lil' Petey. "Look, kid," Petey started. "Sometimes bad things happen, and you just can't forgive. And you can't forget. Sometimes all you've got is hate."

"I don't know, Papa," Lil' Petey said, hugging Petey. "Hate had caused a lot of problems in this world. But it hasn't solved one yet."

"He's right," Maddie said. "I forgive a lot of people."

"Even the old mayor?" Petey asked.

"I'm trying to," Maddie said. "When the Mayor came along, when she caused us problems, I thought she was only doing it for the sake of the city. But when the news came, she was only doing it for herself and to be mean. Despite all that, I'm still trying to forgive her."

Maddie gave Petey a hug, who placed an arm around her shoulders and returned the hug. Meanwhile, Crud was angry at Dog Man for his deception. "Crud hate new buddy!" Crud said. "Crud destroy new buddy!"

"But first, Crud untie tail!" Crud began untying his tail until Sarah came running by.

"Not so fast, Cruddy!" Sarah said as she ran and fired a kick at Crud. Zuzu jumped and bit into Crud's tail, making him scream in pain.

"Wait for me, gang!" Chief said, running to Crud.

"Not so fast, Chief," Mayor said as he ran to Chief. "Dog Man isn't a cop no more."

"But..."

"Yet he was impersonating a cop!"

"But..."

"Dog Man belongs in jail!"

"But..."

"And if you help him, you're going to jail, too!" Mayor threatened.

"But..."

"So what's it gonna be, Chief?" Mayor asked. "Are you gonna risk everything for that loser?"

"Well...uh...you bet I am!" Chief answered. Chief ran over to fight Crud. "Make way for Chief."

"So, Chief is a traitor, eh?" Mayor asked before turning to the cops that had arrived. "Well, don't just stand there! Arrest them!"

"But.." the cops were about to say when Mayor interrupted them.

"No more buts!" Mayor snapped. "Arrest them or you're all fired!"

While they were fighting Crud, each of the cops placed handcuffs on Chief, Sarah, Zuzu, and Dog Man. "Sorry, Chief," one of the officers said.

"We don't have a choice, Sarah," another said.

Mayor laughed as the four friends were being arrested. "Great, now the bad guy is getting away!" Sarah said as Crud started running.

"It's your own fault, you were helping a criminal," Mayor told Sarah before turning to the cops. "Now put those chumps in the cop mobile, and get 'em out of my sight!"

Sarah, Chief, Zuzu, and Dog Man were brought into the truck. "Yes Mayor," one of the driver said before driving away, leaving the Mayor in smoke from the engines.

"Hey!" Mayor shouted.

Meanwhile, while Crud was running, he passed by a sign with the words "City's 3rd Largest Lunch Bag and Gift Shop" on it. "Hey what's this?" He said when he noticed a giant lunch bag.

He read a sign in front of the lunch bag. "Warning: please do not spray this giant lunch bag with living spray."

Crud then had an evil idea. "Crud's Motor Brain give him good idea!" Crud said, noticing a store next to him.
