My fingers danced expertly along the charcoal black and ivory white keys of the grand piano, my foot slightly pressing the damper pedal every so often, the sweet, flowing, melody of the chords filled the room and I was in my own world. Just me and the perfectly tuned piano. I had practiced this piece so many times I could do it with my eyes closed, furthermore blocking my surroundings. The piece slowly came to an end, my hands pressing the last keys ever so slightly, my foot pressing down the pedal, causing a dramatic effect.
"Perfect,", "Absolutely marvellous," two voices exclaimed behind me.
I looked behind me, to see my boss, Louis, and my friend/co-worker, Niall, leaning against the doorway, big smiles on their faces and eyes gleaming with awe."As much as I'd love to hear you play all day," Niall said, "I've got a lovely lady here to learn guitar. Oh, a tall man with curly brown hair and green eyes will come in later, can you please tell him to wait out here and that I'll be out shortly?" I gave him a small smile and nodded my head.
"Thanks sweet cheeks!" Niall smiled cheekily and with that, walked off to the tutoring room.
"I've got some work to do in my office, it's a bit slow today so you can stay here and play, just keep an eye out for any customers." Louis gave a tight lipped smile and stalked into his office.
I nodded and turned back to the antique grand piano before me, my fingers hovering over the keys to begin my favourite piece, Sonata No.59 in eb major, finale.
I had been learning to play the piano for as long as I can remember, my father tutoring me everyday for at least an hour, two hours once I could read music fluently. After being diagnosed with depression at the young age of 12, playing the piano became my sweet escape, the whole world disappeared as soon and I sat on the piano stool and my hands positioned themselves on the ivory keys.
Once again, I escaped into my own world, not aware of the passing time.
There was a small ring as a customer entered the store, I stood up and walked to the front counter.A man wearing a black batman shirt and black jeans walked to the counter. He looked like he was in his early twenties and had dark brown hair, almost black, with a perfectly styled quiff.
"Hello, Lou's Music Emporium, would you like any help?" I asked, fiddling with my lower lip piercing.
His caramel brown eyes shot to me, "I was just looking for a guitar." he spoke with a strong English accent and smiled sweetly. Wow, he was handsome.
"Zayn! Bro!" Louis called out.
"Hey bro!" The man, Zayn, smiled, his eyes squinting slighty and his tongue between his teeth.
I walked back to the grand piano, letting the men do their thing, sitting gracefully on the stool, ready to make the world around me disappear.
I took a deep breathe, in then out, relaxing and closing my eyes momentarily. My shoulders relaxed and my hands instinctively positioned themselves. The gentle, rhythmic euphony emitted from the housing and I was lost.
I was so lost in playing, i didn't hear the ring of the bell as someone walked in, but I was greatly aware of his presence when he took a seat on the piano stool next to me and moved his hands along the ivory keys, playing the same notes as I, only two octaves above.
I looked up to him and my green-grey eyes locked with his shining emerald eyes. His mouth spread into a wide grin, a dimple indenting his left cheek. My hands faltered on the keys, my breath being taken away by the most handsome man I have ever seen.
"Come on love, keep playing." His smile grew larger and my insides melted at his voice, slow and deep with a strong English accent, it was better than any composition I had ever heard, more musical than any piece I could ever play.
I snapped my head back to the piano,
focusing on the piece we were playing in synchronisation. I gave him small sideways glances, marvelling at how handsome he looked, with his eyebrows knitted together in concentration and the corners of his mouth pointing downwards slightly. The piece eventually came to an end. We looked back to each other, he was grinning, his dimple more prominent than before, and his green eyes sparkling.
My mind was reeling of things to say, but the English boy spoke first, saying words I didn't realise would turn my life around."Hi, I'm Harry."
