When the son of Hades awoke for the last time, he found the details of what he last remembered to be fairly hazy. He remembered the sound of shouts, the release of arrows and the clashing of swords. Demigods were fighting left and right with each other - Greeks versus Romans. Octavius was leading the opposing side, and it was a surprise when they began to roll out the cannons. Deafening blasts rang throughout Nico's skull and he couldn't help himself but to look out at the others on the field around him.
A few demigods were already strewn across the fields, the grass becoming stained a dark crimson. Children of Apollo played medic and began to swarm those that were injured with some kids from the Ares cabin following them like a demigod shield. With no time for Nico to process, he was escorted next on a gurney. A Roman attacked the son of Hades before he could register, knocking the Ghost King's stygian iron blade out of his hand in one swift strike. A split second later he was knocked out by a simple head-butt.
There was several times that Nico came to on the way to the infirmary. The first time he felt weightless, as though he was swimming through water as the dull sounds of battle rang around them. The second time there was a bright white light and a soothing voice that cut through the haze. "...vitals...stable....needs rest...doctor's orders..." By the third time, he noticed the white sterile walls that surrounded him. It didn't take long for him to put two and two together, especially when the son of Hades attempted to get up from the bed and had to fall back immediately with a pained yelp. From his head to his legs he ached, taking into account several scrapes and bruises along his body.
Within moments of laying back down, a red stain began to develop on his left side. It was apparent to him that his quick move to get up must've ripped stitches that he was unaware of. Nico put his fingers against his temples, rubbing them as he felt the oncoming of a splitting headache. He ran his hands through his hair before a bump in the back brought them to a pause. Well shit, he thought to himself. Someone really did me in.
It didn't take long for the discomfort of the blinding lights and bright white walls to affect him negatively. His splitting headache was turning into a full-blown migraine within moments. Hastily the Ghost King grabbed the pillows that supported his head and laid down as he placed them directly on and surrounding his face. Once submerged in the darkness he let out a sigh of relief - and then the door opened.
The same voice Nico heard earlier throughout his bits of consciousness pierced through the darkness. "Nice to see you're awake, was worried you had quite the concussion there. I'm Dr. Solace, from the Apollo cabin. I've come to run your vitals again now that you're awake, plus a blood test to see how much ambrosia you have in your system still." The sound of a chair was heard, being scooted across the floor until it creaked - indicating that the doctor had sat. "We dosed you with what we could. It healed the internal injuries, but I recommend staying here for the next day or two so we can monitor your external wounds." There was a long pause before the doctor spoke up again, sounding slightly annoyed. "Can you please uncover yourself so I can run the tests?"
Without hesitation, the son of Hades managed to grumble out a weak "Fight me." It prompted a laugh from the doctor, who began to take off the pillows one by one. Nico groaned in protest but was unable to fuss without risking opening up more wounds. His eyes moved over to the doctor, who he saw as tall and tan, with sandy blonde hair and a face dotted with freckles that lead to pale blue eyes.
"Maybe later," Dr. Solace chuckled as he grabbed the Ghost King's arm with little resistance. Nico glanced to the side and saw the blood being drawn from his arm into a long cylinder-like tube. It was mere seconds after that that Nico passed out once again.
The fourth time the son of Hades came to, the room was empty again. The headache he had before was gone, being helped by the IV of ambrosia that ran into his arm. Although the pain in his head had dissipated, it was replaced with a muddled fog. The godly food that was being dripped into his system made his body feel as though it was warm and fuzzy, replacing the soreness that was there before. Several moments after he woke, the blonde doctor stepped into the room again. "Did you come here to figh-" Before Nico could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by a coughing fit that left him disoriented, wheezing and dizzy.
Dr. Solace shared a smile that was brighter than the fluorescent lights in the hospital room they were in as he made his way over to Nico's side. He took the IV out of the Ghost King's arm, rolling the machine to the side as he gazed over at the screen. "No, I didn't as I'm sure we're both aware that right now you'd win," he declared. The younger male grunted in protest, letting the darkness take over him again.
By the fifth time Nico awoke, he felt almost as good as new. The head pains he had went from a migraine to a dull ache. The scrapes that littered his arms and legs were reduced to almost nothing. When he finally brought himself to get out of bed, he found a new pair of clothes sitting on the chair that was placed beside his bed along with a coffee from the cafeteria. On the cup was a number, as well as instructions like "No more than 1/4th ambrosia a day. Plenty of rest recommended - NO SHADOW TRAVELLING for 2 weeks. Fight me?" The son of Hades couldn't help the small smile that began to play upon his lips. Even throughout his delirium, he managed to charm one sunny individual and suddenly he was eager to get better for their fight.
