I got this idea for a story a few days ago. You might think this plot is over used but it has a twist. Enjoy!

He left me with one promise.

"I will come back for you."

He broke his promise, along with my heart. No call, no text, no email in over three years. I tell people I'm over it, that he was just a crush. That is the biggest lie I've ever told. He's all I think about. I torment myself by watching his music videos, twitcams, interviews, concerts, and even read his fanfics, praying that someday he'll come back for me.

I held on to that hope desperately, clinging to the possibility of him loving me. Up until yesterday. I found out he was dating someone else, that he had moved on completely. I ripped up pictures of us together, his posters, notes I had kept, and smashed his CDs on the floor, sobbing all the while. I kept one thing. The locket he gave me for my 15th birthday with a little picture of him inside. I hang it around my neck, keeping it close to my heart.

He forgot about me and everything we had. But I won't forget about him.

Piper's POV:

"Hurry up, Piper," my identical twin sister Jacie tells me, slinging her backpack over her shoulder as I add a bit of mascara to my lashes.

"I'm coming." I look in the mirror and brush through my hair one last time. It's straight today, as opposed to its uncontrollable curls.

"Why are you dressing up so much today? It's not picture day. Does mom know that you're wearing makeup?" Jacie asks as we walk downstairs. I roll my eyes.

"Come on, Jace. We're 16 now, plus, Greg said he wanted to talk to me today." It's Jacie's turn to roll her eyes.

"Why don't you date someone who's actually in your league? We're not popular. How bout Niall?"

"Ew gross! We're best friends, and you know I don't like him like that." My family always teases me about Niall being my best friend, just because I'm a girl and he's a boy. It really irritates me.

I quickly grab a banana and scarf it down because I took too much time getting ready.

"Niall's here!" Jacie yells from the living room.

"Be there in a sec!" Niall and I have walked to school every morning since I was 9. I grab two muffins and run outside.

"Nialler! I brought food," I say, handing him a muffin. He eats it in like one bite, so I go ahead and give him the other one. "Didn't you eat at your house?" I ask, giggling.

"Yeah, but that was like 15 minutes ago!" He exclaims. I ruffle his blonde hair, cause I know that he hates when I do that.

"Wow Niall." He grins at me, and I feel a weird flutter in my stomach. Why?

"I had an idea," he says as we continue walking down the sidewalk. "How about we audition for The X Factor together?"

"I dunno... I don't think I'm ready."

"Please? I know we're both good enough! Come on, Piper. You know you're ready." I bite my lip. I can tell he really wants this.

"Okay. For you."

"Yes!" He yells and hugs me, making me laugh.

"I'm glad we're friends." He smiles at me, but something about it doesn't seem sincere.

"Me too."

Niall's POV:

Friends. Best friends. That's all. She'll never know how I really feel about her. I shouldn't love her like that, but I can't help it. She's so perfect. I love everything about her, from her insanely curly hair to the way she dances everywhere she goes.

"You know what's annoying?" She asks, doing a couple chassés and frappés.

"What?"

"Just because we hang out a lot, everyone thinks we must be in love with each other! Isn't that stupid?" I feel my heart sink.

"Yeah. Stupid."

"We're here! I gotta go. Bye!"

"Bye!" I always forget to say 'I love you.'
