Music Video: 「Inner Whirlpool」by Tatsuya Kitani
"Dialga, Roar of Time! Palkia, Spacial Rend!"
Of course Cyrus would go for the hard-hitting moves. Mindy sighed as Dialga bellowed and Palkia swiped one arm across the air. The earth grew and broke with each wave cutting it, affected by both Space and Time. Grass blades faded out of existence. In front of Palkia, Sandgem Town appeared in the tear of the dimensional fabric, the quaint seaside town in disarray, the local Professor, Professor Rowan staring through the gaping hole at Flower Paradise.
"Dragon Rush, Garchomp," commanded Cynthia.
An aura of overwhelming malice engulfed Garchomp as he darted towards Palkia.
Mindy shut her eyes. "Detect."
It was something she badly needed to do. She had detected Saturn's wayward behaviour and grew convinced that there was no way villains could earn their redemption easily without sincerity. If anything, it was a façade. That wasn't the ideal outcome she wished to attain.
Mindycham shared her sentiments. While Garchomp and Palkia clashed, Mindycham blocked Dialga's Roar of Time with a translucent orange barrier, the patch of grass inches before her rippling with a sonorous wave as it turned to soil.
Roar of Time had the power to call upon the past. Spacial Rend, on the other hand, cut and knitted the threads of the universe at will, conjoining locations and dimensions. That meant any attacks against Dialga and Palkia had to proceed with caution lest they become wasted energy or redirected at innocent dimensions.
If only Mindy had a Medichamite or Cynthia, a Garchompite! However, Mega Evolution had been warned against by Professor Rowan as a means of Pokémon going beyond their complete selves, a dangerous and temporary transcendence not to be toyed with. It was also why Mega Evolution, while popular in Kalos and Hoenn, never made it to Sinnoh. Said professor watched the battle unfold with awe shooting out of his eyes.
The good news was that both Temporal and Spatial Pokémon needed to recharge after their heavy attacks, resulting in a minute-long paralysis. As the rest of Team Galactic, reduced to audiences, prayed the duo endure any reckless blow from Mindycham and Garchomp, Cynthia seized the opportunity to have Garchomp whip up a Sandstorm and push multiple Poison Jabs into Palkia till zie was badly poisoned, eliciting a howl from zir. Garchomp's Mach Speed meant two Jabs a second, lasting for forty-five seconds. But the issue of Dialga pertained, what with its Steel-type making it immune to both Sandstorm and poison. Mindycham's Telepathy ability meant she would receive no damage from Sandstorm, but Cynthia would've preferred Pure Power for some efficiency. Then again, it was Mindy's Pokémon, not hers.
Mindy was nothing as strategic as Cynthia, given her lack of battling experience. She could hardly depend on the Lake Guardians for advice now that they were in a heated discussion to stop Giratina, whatever Cyrus planned to do with the Renegade Pokémon. Mindycham was different from Rasu, unable to take initiative now that she was too domesticated and tossed the instincts to survive way back in her head.
The minute was coming to an end and Mindy had not given a command.
"Fifteen seconds left! Do something, Mindy!" Cynthia prodded her before ordering Garchomp to go for Dragon Claw after Dragon Claw at Palkia.
Mindy yawned. If it wasn't instinct she could rely on, then it could only be Mindycham's sharpened intuition and sixth sense from yoga training. She would play the long bout and strike when the opponent's worn out.
"Power Swap and Guard Swap."
Mindycham was the same with her trainer. They would survive by rationalising and Trading. Dialga's powerful attack, defence, special attack and special defence stats for Mindycham's relatively shoddy ones. Dialga prided zirself as a special attacker, which meant going with a special attack would be decisive. Fighting would crush Steel, but Fighting-type moves were often attributed as physical rather than special. Mindy gritted her teeth.
