A/N--This chapter is more revolving around Brian much more than Rivers, to develop the reader's relationship with Brian, since Rivers and Brian and so close.
This chapter isn't essential to read if you're just here to read for Rivers, but I just wanted to write this chapter

Also; I recognize that Brian did some not so great things, and it may be in bad taste to write him bonding with a child, however, I'm writing this with Brian as a character, not like Brian himself, so assume that in this book, Brian only has the same talents, voice, appearance, etc. but hasn't done the things he has irl. Consider this book my last tiny bit of comfort with Brian. Thank you.

"You ready for your first lesson with Brian?" Rivers asks you as you pack your guitar into the car to go to Brian's. You nod in response to Rivers' question.

"I know he's a little... uh.. awkward with kids, just, be patient with him."  Rivers adds.

"i know dad, I noticed." You chuckle a little bit. It really is a little funny to you that a grown man like Brian can't figure out how to talk to a child. An authority figure would make sense, but a kid? That's just funny.

On the way there in the car, you ask Rivers, "So why are you guys , like you, Pat, Scott, all good with kids, but Brian... well, he's like... not?"

Rivers laughs. "Well, sweetheart, me, Pat, and Scott, we all have kids. Brian doesn't."

"But even when I first moved in, you treated me good and stuff, and like, could talk to me, so." You explain your confusion a bit.

"Well" He chuckles. "and Kyoko would tell you this, I may be a grown up, but on the inside, in my heart and soul.. if you believe in that kind of thing.. I'm kind of like a big kid. So of course I could talk to you. And now, but you can't tell the guys or your mom this, you're my best friend, (Y/N). You're my kid, and I love you so much." He smiles at you now, stopping at a stop sign and looking back at you through the rearview mirror.

You smile back at him. "I love you too, dad. You're my best friend too."

Rivers pulls up in the driveway of Brian's house. You get out and start getting your things while Rivers goes up to Brian's door and rings the doorbell.

You're getting your things out the car so you can't exactly clearly hear what's being said at the door of Brian's house but you do hear Rivers say "Listen, I know you're not good with kids, but you need to really try, Brian- Do you understand? This means a lot to them. They really want to learn guitar, and I want them to have and be able to do what they want, I care about and love this kid more than I thought I possibly could, and if you ruin their dreams because you can't talk to kids, I swear, Bri- I don't know what I'll do, but I'm sure it will be something. Got that?"

You almost want to cry happy tears. Rivers really cares about and loves you that much? Like his own kid? Wow. I really did get so lucky to be adopted by him.

You walk into Brian's house and Brian and Rivs help you get your things set up next to his guitar and stuff.

You hug Rivers goodbye before he walks out the door. "Bye, Dad! See you later!" You wave at him.

"Bye bye, (Y/N)!" He waves back, and then leaves. You watch him leave through the front window.

You turn around and look at Brian. "Hi, Brian!" You wave a little bit. "So whatchya you got planned for us today?" You ask excitedly, hoping he starts feeling more comfortable over time, but deep down, kind of doubting it.
