Dolores didn't remember what time she arrived back home, Alex had spent most of the night holding onto her. When they both were in a more stable mindset, Alex told her that he wasn't upset with her. He went to say that he still wanted a relationship with her before suggesting that when the time was right, they would tell the boy together, and she agreed before he returned her back to Casita.
When they got there Dolores invited him to have breakfast with them in the morning, to which he happily agreed. As he left she noticed that there were a few things off. The rats kept running in the walls, Luisa's eye was constantly twitching. Mirabel was in the kitchen with Julieta getting her hand fixed after a scrape from one of the tiles.
The Next morning Dolores was talking with her parents about last night. Pepa saw she had run off in a fit after dancing with Alex but Felix stopped her from following after their daughter, saying that she probably needed time to herself. Before long, Antonio came running saying he wanted to dance with them.
When they asked her what happened, she held a light smile saying that she finally told the man in question the truth and that everything was fine.
When breakfast came around, Alex popped up and smiled at her. She gave him one in return and blushed as she pulled him into the house. Camilo had seen the looks they shared while they sat down and decided to tease. He placed a hand under his chin and made a love sick look. " I didn't know we were allowed to bring boyfriends over for breakfast, Lola. Do I hear wedding bells?"
She rolled her eyes at him as she looked at him from across the table before smirking at her brother. "Are you mad that I actually invited him over?... or that Miguel has to help his family run the coffee shop, so you can only see him when you aren't busy helping in town?"
Camilo's eyes widened and his face had a light blush while their mother stared at him with wide eyes. "Who's Miguel?" Camilo avoided eye contact with the woman beside him and stared at his plate. "Heeyy, what do you know, I'm out of Arepas." He stood up and went to get seconds.
Pepa looked over to Dolores with a questioning look and she only shook her head before going back to her plate. Alex chuckled at Dolores' behavior before nudging her. "At least I know where you get your playful side from." She hummed as a response before getting up, following Felix to grab seconds as well.
Mirabel, who seemed awfully curious about the miracle, was there with Camilo who was shifted into Dolores before their father told him to cut it out. Dolores had waited a few paces behind Felix to tell Mirabel what she knew before walking off, and grabbing her food.
When everyone was finally seated, Abuela had looked at everyone before her eyes landed on the unknown man sitting at the table. "...Who are you?" Alex took his eyes off of Dolores and met the older woman's cold stare and matched it with a straight face. Dolores glanced at him with a hesitant look before looking at her Abuela. "This is Alex. I invited him to breakfast, Abuela. He's... my.."
Alex gave a tight smile to the matriarch as everyone stared while he grabbed Dolores' hand. "I'm Alejandro Mendoza. Dolores' boyfriend." Abuela gave a subtle stern look to the girl in question as she sat down. "I wasn't aware of any boyfriend."
Before Dolores could say something, Alex beat her to it. "We wanted to take time to understand each other without the...complications of others." Dolores could see it in their eyes, they were having a stare down. Abuela's eyes were more stern, and held authority where Alex was more refined and protective.
When she told him what had been happening prior to their relationship, he wasn't the slightest bit happy with the older woman when she was mentioned. Dolores knew he was a difficult man to anger, but that didn't mean something never got under his skin. She gave his hand a squeeze and looked at him when his eyes were brought back to hers.
Before another word could be said about the heavy tension that was placed at the table, Felix held a smile and turned his attention to the small boy sitting next to Dolores. "Tonito, did you enjoy your ceremony?" With that everyone's attention was now on the 5 year old who had a bright smile on his face.
When breakfast finally ended, the family went their separate ways to do their chores. Alex had stayed with Dolores while she completed hers, making small talk to keep them both occupied. Occasionally her Abuela would be passing by and Dolores would notice the unfriendly expression on his face. "Alex."
His eyes were brought back to her own and she gave him a sympathetic look. "I know you are upset but if you keep that up, She's going to forbid you from coming around." She grabbed at his hands and lightly squeezed as he let out a sigh.
Alex squeezed back and looked at her with a whole hearted yet serious expression. " Muneca , I don't want to cause any problems, but while I am still breathing I will not sit back and let her continue controlling your life. Te mereces mucho más que esto ."
He kissed her hands with his eyes closed. "And even though I just found out about Antonio, I won't let her hurt him like she has with the rest of this family. So she can try to keep me away all she wants, but I am here to stay. For you and our son, I will do anything, mi amor."
Their son, the way her heart soared by those simple words was out of this world. She liked the way it sounded, and made her want to tell Antonio the truth even more. Dolores blushed lightly and gave him a loving smile. "Okay, if it's possible then just avoid being around Abuela, and don't go saying that too loud. We still need to tell him, and I'd rather it come from us than anyone else." The tall man gave her a nod before she got back to the task at hand.
This was going to be an interesting turn of events.
