Janet and I have been best friend since kindergarden. After that, we were inseparable. Around 5th grade our interest changed from fairies to mermaids. From there, our obsession blossomed. During class, we would practice holding our breaths. After school, we would admire mermaids on the internet. Once, while browsing YouTube on how to become a mermaid, we found a guide. On it, it said:
HOW TO BECOME A MERMAID:
Step 1) Go to your favorite river/lake/ocean/sea/other large bodies of water
Step 2) Grab a large flat rock that you can write on with another rock.
Step 3) Write on the rock, saying: "I wish a was a mermaid" in clear words
Step 4) Kiss the rock, and throw it into the water.
Step 5) You'll need to wait a few hours/days/weeks/months. In that time, it's the mermaids deciding if you should be accepted with them.
Step 6) When you finally do get the ability to travel between worlds, you will feel it. Your legs will tingle, your heart will pound, and your skin will gently glow. After that, you will have to discover for yourself what abilities you have.Being the silly 7th graders we were, we believed full heartedly. We immediately planned a sleepover and tried it out. Once we arrived at our local park, we ran down to the river. Following the direction exactly, we finished within minutes. After examining our bodies for any strange feeling, we left. Although the directions said that it would take a while for full effect, our hearts sank. We hoped that we would immediately be mermaids
