Save Your Tears (final one shot)

Edit 5 months later: This is in fact, not the final oneshot. My overdramatic ass accidentally went all-out.

As per the title, the theme was derived from song "Save your tears" by The Weekend. Feel free to listen while you read, play it towards the middle or you can put it on loop ^^

________

It was as the saying goes, "nothing good in this cruel world could ever last."

Wanwan stood in the far corner of her living room, with Ling standing directly opposite of her, putting a good distance between them. There was a profuse, unexplainable tension in the air, one so thick she could practically taste it with her tongue. It was one that definitely wasn't there before.

They've been a couple for over a year now. Ling had asked her out the moment they both graduated college, and Wanwan accepted just as quickly. From then on, it was as if they clicked. They were there for each other through thick and thin, high and low, and completed each other's missing pieces. The last part of each other's personal puzzle. They matched each other perfectly.

With a couple like them, a seemingly match made in heaven, no one could have predicted it would have led to this.

No one would have imagined it would lead to such a disagreement. On one particular night where the sky mourned and the heaven's poured down relentless rain on their city, the continuous pitter patter of the raindrops tapping on her roof and sides of the windows were all the sounds that filled their awkward, otherwise silent room.

"Is it true?" Ling broke the silence first. His voice was cold, monotonous, mirroring the expressionless look on his guarded features.

"Ling-"

"Is it true?" He asked again, not wanting to hear any excuses. "Is it true, Wanwan?"

The girl looked down from where she was standing, fearing that the moment she would speak be the moment she would lose herself. She couldn't answer, not when her heart felt as if it was suffocating her to death.

Ling continued on, "Is it true that you've been seeing Yin behind my back? It is only a yes or no question."

After a few moments, Wanwan finally spoke, her voice a strained, painful whisper. She kept her gaze on the floor, not wanting to face her boyfriend.

"I'm sorry."

Ling could only stare at her dully, as rigid as a statue. He knew it was coming, yet he couldn't ever prepare himself for the blow this would be to his poor, fragile heart that he opened up to her. He doesn't know the details; maybe it wasn't intentional, but he never would have believed a girl like her was capable of doing something like this. He didn't want to hear anything else.

"We're done. Don't come near me ever again." Ling turned around to leave before he could accidentally do something stupid or make things more complicated.

He began walking towards the door, each step feeling as if there were metal chains around his ankles. He tried to keep himself as calm and collected as possible, but it was so very difficult at the moment. Ling internally panicked and tried to will himself to go faster. He needed to leave and fast.

"Wait! Ling, I-" The words came out in an ugly sob, her voice catching in her throat. Wanwan forced herself  to close the distance. She reached out and touched his shoulder, but Ling jerked away harshly.
