Cara was waiting at the door. "What did you do?!" She looked worried. I held my hands up. "Nothin' bad, just put him out a pair of pants and gave him a...'reminder' to keep you out of this." She smiled, "I don't know how you take it. You were so mad yet, you didn't take a single life. How do you stay restrained?" I was just a simple person. I wasn't capable of planing or managing but a few thing at a time. "I have two rules in life: don't die of your own stupidity and follow God's command as far as physically possible, once you reach that limit, ask God to push you farther." She thought a second, "Simple man. Simple life." I chuckled, "Amen to that." We were silent. There was something we both wanted to say but neither had the balls to say it. I-I loved her. It was hard not to. She was smart but air-headed, attractive with her long dirty blonde hair, Shapley curves and dazzling eyes, nerdy like me especially with anime, and just plain sweet. I had faced all kinds of evil. Stood in the face of danger. Given others a chance to live at risk of myself. But I can't work up the courage to tell a girl how I feel? Bull! "Cara, I...have something to tell you.... When I met you last year, you were a nerdy girl with quirks like me, but then we did more with each other and you became so much more...you're goofy, kind, sweet and gentle....I couldn't ask for anyone better. I found you up here. I have no idea if you'd been alone for long or not, but I do know...that God planned it. After all we've been through, zombies or not, you need to know...I...care...for you......and...I want nothing more than to...spend the rest of my life with you..." She sat on her cot, mouth agape. The corner of her mouth twitched. She leaned this way and that. I was worried she would reject me, but then her eyes filled with tears and she shot up, burying her head in my shoulder, arms around my neck sobbing. I stood there and held her, she was hurting and lonely, I was willing to be there for her. There was no way of knowing what she's been through before finding me and the l4d2 group. I managed to get her into bed. I sat on my knees and just existed, for her. She fell asleep and I curled up on the floor next to her. I didn't dare walk away. I told her I was here and I meant it. The lights dimmed. Someone must have witnessed all of it. I barely caught the nurse's chocolate pony tail as I fell asleep.
