Ben was ecstatic over the decision that the human female would remain with him and his team. He hurried down to Doc's room in Sick Bay and entered. He saw Luna was watching the human's vitals and was recording them into a device, much like a tablet that humans used to use.
"Hey Luna, how is she doing?" he asked and was surprised to see the human glare at him from the examination station.
"She is stable. Doc is giving her a round of antibiotics as a precaution against any infections that try to set in. Her attitude, though, is less then thrilled," Luna replied, looking at the girl and trying to hide a grin.
"Well, I am certainly glad to hear that. Human girl," he started while holding her gaze, "can you write?"
After a moment of contemplation, she nodded. With a smile, Ben grabbed a pen and tablet. He gave Luna instructions to remove one of her hand and arm restraints.
"Now, don't try to lash out or anything. Can you write down your name?"
The human girl took the pen after a moment and wrote her name on the tablet as Ben held it. She wrote well considering how long it could have been since she had last done so.
When she was finished, he turned the tablet so he could read it.
"Well, hello Tabatha."
-----------------------
His name rolled right off his tongue, and I nodded. It had been a long time since I had written anything, and it had taken me a little longer to write my name out than it would have since before the Invasion.
He kept staring at me and then his eyes roamed, cataloging my state. I was sore, and things hurt. I was trying not to show it to these dog-men. It made me uncomfortable to think about Them caring for me.
"Well Luna, how long until we can take her home? Did Doc say?" asked the big gray one.
"He said we can transport her there as soon as the antibiotic is done. He sent some of the team home to get things ready and the others are waiting by the craft. Shouldn't be more than an hour," she finished.
What did they mean "get things ready"? I made a noise and Ben looked at me. I made a writing motion with my free hand and he grinned while bringing the tablet over. He handed me the pen and I wrote "L E T M E G O !"
He turned the tablet so he could see and read it, his eyebrows raising. After a moment he shook his head and said, "Tabatha, no. You belong to me and my team now. We are taking you home."
I glared at him and tried to speak, before blinking back the pain my attempt at speaking caused. When I made the writing motions again, Ben grabbed my arm and gently secured it to the bed.
"This isn't up for discussion, little one. My word is law. Now try and rest," he finished while turning and walking out of the room, waving at Luna as he did.
I was angry and scared, but mostly angry. I wasn't a "little" anything. Well, maybe to Them because humans usually weren't as big as They are.
"Don't worry, Hun," said Luna, "we aren't all bad. Besides, we will take good care of you."
I rolled my eyes in response and made a small grunting noise. She smiled and patted my arm.
An hour later I was being carried on a stretcher between two of the biggest Canids I had seen. They had introduced themselves as Bruno and Red. I didn't much care. I was not happy and was already hoping for an opportunity to escape.
That opportunity never came, at least not yet, on the way to their home. It was huge on the outside. It was built out of logs with many windows and was two stories tall. I could see a chimney or two jutting out from the roof. It had a huge high fenced in yard with a vegetable garden and some fruit trees, barren and covered in snow. It was an ecofriendly home from what I could see.
As we entered, I was astounded at the space. I was taken into a huge bedroom with a bed sized to match, a small living area with a couch and comfy looking recliners, bathroom, and a huge walk-in closet. I was taken into the walk in closet, which I thought was odd. Then I really looked around me. It wasn't a walk-in closet at all. It was a, for lack of a better explanation, kennel. A large, human kennel about the size of a jail cell.
I was placed onto the bed, a full sized one. It was comfy with a simple velvet soft blanket. It had a barred window that had a view of the garden, a thick rug on the floor, and a small bathroom with just a toilet and sink.
"This is your room for now, Tabatha," said Ben, "Once you are gentled a little, you can have more access to our home and sleep in which ever bed you please. This is my room. Now try and rest for a little. We will make you something to eat. I am sure you are hungry," said Ben.
He left my area and shut a barred door behind him and locked it. The others left with him and I was alone.
