I must apologize to you all because of how long this update took.  Life, as it so often does, got in the way.  With any kind of luck, I will now be able to update this story from time to time.

Please, please tell me what you think about this story.  I love reading comments and they give me the motivation to keep going!

I hope you enjoy!

Ben could barely hide his smile behind his book as he watched Tabatha sit stiffly between him and Sky. He couldn't help but wonder what she would do next.

The book he was reading was very interesting. The current chapter discussed how taming a wild human could be a difficult task. Gentle but firm was the rule of thumb for this author, whose writings were based on the most recent scientific research. Some Canids, like Gunner and his Hunters, used tactics best not mentioned here.

After a moment he focused back on his book, enjoying the quiet sounds of his team, the fire, and Tabatha.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I looked around me, watching the group. Rex and Bruno had started playing some kind of board game across the room. It looked similar to chess, but more complicated. I watched for awhile as they moved the pieces back and forth. Loosing interest, I looked at Ben, who was now completely absorbed in his book. Sky was equally interested in her book.

My mind began to wander as I sat, wondering what I was meant to do, sitting on this giant of a couch. While I was contemplating what I should be doing, Ben casually placed a furry hand on my knee. I immediately pushed him away and clumsily hopped off the couch, the boot on my foot preventing more agile movement. To my surprise, no one said or did anything, they just continued on like I had not done anything.

After a moment, Ben closed his book and took off his glasses and said, "Tabatha, you will soon learn that we do not mean you any harm. While you settle, we wont force you to accept certain things here and there, but as time goes on you wont be getting as much leeway either."

I flushed red with anger and embarrassment. I wasn't some pet or child needing care and attention. I was a grown adult. I so wished that I could speak and let this be known to these Invaders, but until my throat healed there was no way.

Ben smiled at the expression on my face and stood up, stretching, "I for one think it is high time you were to bed."

I rolled my eyes in response and shook my head no. It was high time they let me go. Before I could act on this thought, Ben reached over and lifted me off of my feet, cradling me. I tried to struggle, but he held me firmly until I stopped.

"Good night, everyone. We will see you in the morning," he said as he started carrying me from the room.

I glared at him as he carried me, but he seemed to take no notice as we entered the bedroom that housed my cell. He shut the door behind him and gently placed me on the floor, keeping one hand on my shoulder as we walked to the opening of the cage. I went in, exhausted from the day's events, and sat on my bed. With a smile he gently shut the door and it locked with an audible click.

"Tabatha, you look tired. Why don't you get snuggled in and get some sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a big day for you."

He then walked into the bathroom and shut the door. I got up and tested the cell door, to find it secured. With not much else to do, I got under the covers and got comfortable. It was not to terribly long when Ben came out wearing pajama pants and that darn book in hand. As he got into his bed, I rolled over so I wouldn't have to look at him and waited to drift off.
