Chapter Twenty Three

After a few text messages going back and forth I finally saw Travis’s Range Rover pull up in the driveway.

He got out of the car and wrapped his arms around me.

“Hey baby” He said giving me a kiss.

“Hey” I said walking him in the house.

Once we got inside he looked at me with a concerned look on his face.

            “What’s wrong Jasmine?”

            “Nothing”

“Nah, there’s a reason why you wanted me over here. What’s going on?”

I sat down on the couch with Travis following behind me.

“To be honest I’ve been feeling real bad every since we had sex.”

He scooted closer to me and placed his hand on top of mine

            “Are you pregnant?” He asked.

“It’s too early to tell, but after this week my period will be officially late.”

“So basically it’s a possibility you are.”

“I don’t know.” I said looking up at him. “You used protection didn’t you?”

“Um yeah.” He said instantly looking down.

“Travis look at me, did you or did you not use a condom?”

“Yes baby I used one, but”

“But what Travis just tell me, I don’t have time for this right now.”

“But when I took if off and threw it in the trash I noticed a few holes.”

“What the fuck do you mean there were a few holes, you told me you knew what you were doing.”

“All the other times I had sex that never happened.” He looked up at me as if he knew he had just fucked up. He had been caught up in a lie and he knew it.

“All the other times? You told me you had only been with one girl.”

“I did baby.” He said coming in for another kiss.

“Don’t fucking come near me, matter of fact you can leave. I swallowed the hard lump in my throat, and tried my hardest to hold in the tears.

“I’m sorry Jasmine I just thought if you knew I had sex more than once, you wouldn’t want to be my girl anymore.”

“So you lied? What sense does that even make?”

“I guess it doesn’t really make sense when you think about it, but baby I love you so much, and I didn’t want you to get the wrong impression of me.” He grabbed my hand but I quickly snatched it away.

            “How many Girls Travis.”

“I don’t know, back at Lake Side I was involved with a lot of girls, some of them weren’t even girlfriends.”

My mind instantly raced back to the day Erika confronted me outside of school. I knew I should have listened to what she said more clearly. I just thought she was trying to start drama like she always did. She had a reputation of starting up petty rumors about people. I just wished I would have listened more carefully. At the end of the day all she wanted was to give me a heads up about how Travis really is.

“I need you to leave. Get up and get the fuck out RIGHT NOW.” Without second thought I started punching him in the face. I got on top of him and started beating him in the head. After a few blows to the head he flipped me over and pinned me on the other side of the couch. I knew my mom would be coming home in a few minutes but I didn’t care. I spat in his face and he let go of my wrists. I jumped back up and started hitting him again. He never once hit me back but I can tell he wanted to.

            “Jasmine calm your ass down.”

“Nigga don’t tell me to calm down”

“Okay well can you at least hear me out?”

“I don’t want to hear anything you have to say. You don’t even know how many girls you’ve been with. How do you know the condom never broke before?” His silence gave me the reassurance to continue.

“You have put your little thing in a multiple girls and you didn’t even once stop to make sure it didn’t break. You don’t know who those girls have been with.”

“I know it seems bad right now, but every time I have sex, I get tested for and I test negative for everything.”

He went down a list of different STDS but I didn’t once hear him say HIV. Travis hadn’t been checked for HIV but that’s okay because if he had HIV wouldn’t the doctors be able to notice it when he got tested for the others? I escorted him out the door and watched him drive off as my mom pulled up. I grabbed the bags out of her arms as she rubbed my back and gave me a shoulder to cry on. She had no idea why I was crying, but I figured as of right now she didn’t need to know. I made up in my mind that I wouldn’t tell her anything until my baby bump started to grow. I wiped my face and took in a few deep breathes, nothing could have prepared me for what was about to happen next.
