Oma yawned as he walked down the stairs. He noticed that Saihara wasn't in bed, and he also wanted a snack. He walked into the main lobby to see Saihara on the couch, flipping through channels. Nothing interesting was on at night, and he sighed.

Oma walked up to him and joined him on the couch. Saihara smiled as the leader snuggled up to him.

"Babe, why aren't you in bed?" Oma asked.

"Just...not sleepy."

"Well, we can't have that. Shumai-chan needs lots of rest so he can be his best self tomorrow! What's bugging you, huh?"

Saihara felt himself smile. "I guess...thinking."

"Ah, late night thinking is never good." Oma grinned. "Don't you know? You have to turn your brain off at 9 pm and turn it on in the morning to preserve power!"

"I see." Saihara said, entertaining the boy snuggled up to him.

"Whatcha thinking about?"

"Just...Shirogane's...death... it got me thinking. What if I did something different during the game? What would have happened if I had just been faster, or walked around at night more often? Would I have been able to stop the culprits? I feel like...my talent is only useful after tragedy strikes...and I'm scared that now...because there won't be another tragedy like that...people won't find me useful anymore...I'll get abandoned because I only was useful after someone died..."

"...Shumai...that's not true at all."

"...But...it is. My talent...it's only useful whenever something goes wrong. Will people still like me when everything's fine? Will...will you still-"

"Snap out of it, Shumai!" Oma said, his eyebrows furrowing. "You're a stupid detective if you can't see that everyone loves you! Not because you're useful, but because you're amazing! You're an awesome person to be around! So no more talk of people not liking you. Everybody likes you. No one here is shallow enough to just like you because you're useful. And if they were, if I find someone who thinks like that, I'll beat them to a bloody pulp!"

"O-Okay...calm down a bit." Saihara said, his smile filling Oma with joy.

"I won't! You deserve so much, Shumai. And...back in the game... you did your best, okay? You did the best you could. You did so well...so please, don't sit here regretting things you can't change. What happened happened, okay?"

"I love you." Saihara kissed Oma on the head.

"I love you too, Shumai-chan~"

"You know, now that we're out, what should we do?"

"Hmmmmmm...I could get a job at some store. You could continue being a detective, or you change career paths. Whatever you want to do. We could share an apartment and play video games and snuggle!"

Saihara laughed. "I like that. We can do normal kid things, too. Go to an arcade, maybe a fair?"

"The park! Oh, I'd love to go to this beautiful park with you. I wonder...I used to live in Tokyo, before the game. I wonder if this universe has the same secret spot..."

"That seems nice."

"We can play board games and eat all the yummy food- oh! Oh! We could get you a tattoo!"

"A...tattoo?"

"Yeah! I've got one on the back of my neck, see?" Oma moved his hair to show a tattoo of the roman numeral 1. Saihara dragged his finger down the tattoo.

"It must have been painful to get."

"Yeah, but I'm no wimp! One of my various organization members gave tattoos and piercings. Oh, I remember when Eight tried to get a tattoo, she fainted on the table!" Oma laughed.

"You must miss them a lot, huh?"

"Yeah..." His smile dissipated. "But right now's not the time to regret. If I'd had participated to try and see them..."

"Yeah. We wouldn't really be here, would we?"

"Nope. Which is why I can't regret a thing."

Saihara frowned. Something's off. I can feel it. But what? And why? "Is there something wrong, Kokichi?"

"N-No...Just...missing them. But I can't think about that."

"Why not?"

"Cause then, I'll get all sad and mad at myself, and then you'll get all worried and sad, and I might tell-" He got silent, cursing himself.

"Tell...what?" Saihara paused, placing his hand on Oma's face. "Kichi...what are you not telling me?"

"Nothing...nothing important anyway. Now that we're here, it's completely irrelevant to our situation. So there's no reason to tell." Shit. Shit. I've been getting too comfortable in this universe. I let it slip, and now he wants to know. Shit.

"If it's completely irrelevant, then there's no reason to not tell me."

"But you'll get all sad. There's no reason to tell you, and it'll make you really sad, so I can't. I don't want a sad Shumai. Telling you would be so selfish of me."

Saihara furrowed his eyebrows. "If it'll make me upset, then it's probably making you upset. No matter what, I don't want you to carry that burden on your own. I want you to be able to tell me anything."

"I won't let you get all sad with me." Oma shook his head. "It's fine, I'm fine."

"You're not fine. Please, tell me." A bit of frustration seeped into his voice.

"But you'll get sad. And you might tell everyone else. And then everyone will get sad. And it'll be all my fault. No, no. I'm not telling."

"Kokichi, I love you. Please, just tell me what's wrong so I can help you!"

"You can't fix it, so why bother?"

"I don't need to fix it. I just want to help you. I just want you to be open with me. I love you. Do...do you not trust me with this?"

"..." Oma sat up. "It's not that I don't trust you, it's that I don't want to hurt you."

"Do you think I can't handle the truth?"

"How many times have you regretted finding the truth, huh? How many times have you wished you didn't find out what really happened? I'm trying to protect you...I love you, Shuichi. I want you to be happy."

"I'm not going to be happy if I know you're not-"

"It's all gone." Oma blurted out.

Saihara's eyes widened. "...What?"

"Everything. The outside world. I saw it. Everything's...gone."

"...W-What do you mean?"

"That keycard I got opened the door at the end of the tunnel. When I opened the door, I couldn't breathe. Everything was ruined. Buildings and stoplights covered in rust. The sky was red. Everything was red. I couldn't breathe." Oma started to panic; his breathing started to speed up. "No one was there. No life. No plants. No humans. Everything was dead. There's nothing left. It's all gone. I-It's all gone. I'm sorry."

"K-Kokichi..."

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have told you. I'm s-so sorry."

Saihara sighed. "Come here, baby. Let me hold you."

"I'm sorry." Oma muttered, his eyes filling with tears.

He wrapped the leader in his arms, pulling the boy down to hug him. "Shhh..." Saihara held Oma as he cried, repeating apologies. He dismissed the new information, and focused on comforting the shaking boy in his embrace.

The two fell asleep on the couch not long after.
