“𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐘?”

The McCall boy looks over at the redhead who is seated beside him reading a book. “It is absolutely necessary.”

Scott sighs, shaking his head. The two were currently in Layla's backyard. She was reading a book while he was answering the questions of the tests she made for him. He had missed their study session a few days ago, and now she is punishing him by making him do both test. It was already dark, and tomorrow was a new school day. He did feel bad for missing the study session because he knew how important it was not only for her but for him, as well.
“I already said I was sorry.”

“And I accepted your apology. Now finish the test, so I can see the answers,” Layla orders. Scott quickly finishes the two tests and hands it to her. “It certainly doesn't look like you've forgiven me.”

“I am mad that you wasted my time that day. I waited so long for you to arrive, but you didn't. You could have told me in advance.”

“And for that, I am sorry.” The redhead stares at him before she goes over his answers. “I can certainly see you didn't go over the last two chapters we did because all these answers are wrong.”

“I'm sorry, I didn't have time. I had to work after school.”

“Okay, and after work? Do you go straight home?” Layla asks him. “Sometimes.”

“And the other times? Where are you at?” Layla asks. She felt like she was interrogating him.

“I'm either hanging out with Stiles or Allison or. . .” Layla sighs nodding. She stands up, starting to pick up her things. “Where are you going?”

“We're done,” Layla tells him. He smiles, picking up his stuff and putting it in his bag. “So, when will our next session be?”

Layla looks up, at the boy. “There will not be a next session. We are done. I'm not going to waste my time.”

“Wait, what? Just because I hang out with my best and my girlfriend after work?” Scott asks confused. He didn't exactly know what he did wrong.

“No, it's not that. I can't help you if you don't help yourself. I can give you my notes and help you with the work, but if you don't go home to revise it, how will you be able to pass Sophomore year?” Layla questions. “It is just two chapters that I don't know, though. I still answered the other correctly.”

“No, you didn't. Scott, do you even go over the notes I gave you?”

“Yes I do.”

“When? Before that test, we wrote?” she asks, and he looks down guiltily. He has so many things on his mind that he doesn't have time to study. Layla is going out of her way to help him, but he isn't doing the work.

“See? I can't keep wasting my time with this.”

“I'm sorry, I've just had a lot of things on my mind and I just can't keep up with everything.” The boy sits down and Layla stares at him. “I know I have been wasting your time but can you please keep tutoring me. I won't let you down.”

Layla sighs, sitting down beside him. “How do I know you won't do this again? Scott, I'm not doing this for me, I'm doing this to help you. I want you to pass, but you have to meet me halfway.”

Scott nods his head. “I will. I promise.”

“Don't promise me anything. Just do it.”

He nods before asking, “Will you keep tutoring me?” He looks at her with his adorable brown eyes, which made her smile. “Yes, I will, but you can't slack off, okay?”
