Brett would always do this, every New Years Eve. He would go the store, to buy the most beautiful lantern as he and his family would do. But now, he was in college alone, with no one to spend it with. Every other student had gone home, spending Christmas together with their families. But he knew he can't for the last 5 years and now, this was his only comfort for every New Years Eve.
"Brrrrrr..."
When he opened the door to the rooftop, the chilly winter wind blew, making his pale skin blushed out of a red hue, the tip of his ears brightened up as also his nose that of soft pink tint. He tugged on his jacket more, trying to dig deeper into his fuzzy jacket.
He went nearer to the edge, he could hear families laughter, saw the flickering Christmas lights, cafes still opened up bright and saw couples on the street holding each other's hands tightly to feel the warmth of the other, it seemed the only person feeling that cold and lonely would be him.
It was nearly midnight anyways, only a few minutes or so and after, he simply decided he was gonna sleep; there was nothing for him to do anyways.
He sat on the chair, looking up at the stars. Even the stars in the sky looked like they have their own companions, friends, love while he was just waiting for midnight. His life had always been like this, so repetitive, so obnoxious, he felt like he was dead inside.
To interrupt his musing, the bell chimed. It was midnight. Then, he excitedly lit his lantern, caressing on to the note that he had carefully taped on the lantern, giving it its final wish, he set the lantern off. He watched as the lantern floated up, becoming more distant and vague.
He hoped eventually someone, would care enough, to look at his lantern and notice his note.
Hi, Stranger 1.
So, you're the licky one who has noticed my note. I know this is cringey but i have nothing else better to do. Being in a boarding house alone bore me to death. If you are as bored as me, chat..hehehe. Oh, and i promised you that I'm a normal person.
XXXXXXXXXXSincerely
Stranger 2He couldn't see his lantern anymore, and the magical fireworks had lost their sparks, he went down to his room.
Nobody ever noticed anything. Why am i still hoping for it then? Ughhh, this is tiresome. Sleep Brett Yang.
He then went to sleep, feeling almost a bit mad about the lantern, that had set off to be a little fun tradition, that his mother had told him about since he was a lil kid; but in his heart, there was always a glimmer of hope.●
*YAAAAWWWNNNNN*
"Ughhhhhh.. so colddd"
Eddy had just woken up from his deep slumber, he went off pretty early last night to enjoy the first sun rise of the new year. He really doesn't care about the whole vibe of New Year and was not a morning person, but he had actually never missed the first sun rise.
He got up, washed up and wore his warmest clothing. He was always excited for the sun rise, he never thought to be a lonely person himself, heck, he even preferred it this way because he always liked to spent time with himself, being the one with some great social anxiety, which he wasn't proud of.
