I hadn't expected myself to wake up on a Monday morning to the delightful scent of fresh waffles but I definitely wasn't protesting. As I dragged myself up out of bed I heard my best friend Foggy singing to himself in my kitchen. Not out of the ordinary but still unexpected seeing as it is...time check... 4 AM on a Monday. "Holy shit Foggy how in gods name are you awake right now" I mumble as I stumble past him to the refrigerator. "Well, Maeve, like many other people in the fine neighborhood of Hells Kitchen, I have a spectacular thing called a job" Foggy responds as I pull the orange juice from the fridge.

"Foggy you know I'm trying to find a job and making jokes about my unemployment won't speed up the process" I groan as he lets out a laugh that was definitely louder than necessary.  "Maybe if you accepted my invitation to come work for me, you'd have a job and all of your problems would be solved." I let out another loud groan before snagging the waffle Foggy had just placed on his plate. "Thank you for the waffles Foggy but I am not accepting your job offer just because you want me to marry your companies other half." I laugh "besides, I'm still waiting for a response from that grille down the street." Foggy groans again as he pulls another waffle from the waffle maker "Maeve you need to take advantage of your degree." I sigh hearing the disappointment laced in his statement. "Just promise me Maeve, if the job at the grille doesn't turn out the way you want it to, you'll come work with me and Matt." As I begin pouring the cheap, sugary syrup over my waffle I nod in agreement. "I will Foggy I promise. As long as you don't try to set me up with Matt. I will NOT be dating one of my Bosses."

About an hour later after Foggy and I had eaten our waffles, he left for work. Now, sitting alone in my empty apartment, I decided to check my email for the first time today to see if the grille has responded to my application. I pull my computer into my lap and sigh just praying that I'll have a response so Foggy will get off my back about not having a job. Over the past few months I've been living off the money provided to me by my mentor. It's enough to get by with rent and food but I want to be able to provide for myself in case anything happens to him. The pressure of providing for myself only increases when I think about all of the shit going on in this city.

As I refocus, my computer loads and I click on the mail app at the bottom of the screen. After what feels like years, my email loads showing 5 new messages. I open the first which ends up being an advertisement for some makeup brand I don't care enough to know the name of. As I click through the remaining emails I notice the subject like on the last one. The line reads: Maeve Johnson Job Application For Nelore Grill.  I open the message, but not before hesitating slightly. I squint my eyes as I read, as if that will make any possible bad news easier to receive. My tightened expression falls as I pass over the line reading "We have decided to go with another option. Thank you for your application." I let out a loud groan that I'm sure was heard from the sidewalk below due to the fact that i'm sitting near an open window. Pouting, I pick up my phone and dial Foggy's number.

Nelson and Murdock, here I come.
