Chapter 3: The Past Returns

Interior – The Lookout (Middle Room) - Day

Skye, Rubble, Liberty, Marshall and Rocky are playing with their toys while Ryder serves him breakfast and watches them play.

Zuma is lying on a cushion reading a book

Liberty (Curious): Zuma, what are you reading to be so focused?

Zuma: It's a book about rescuers. Give some tips, stories about rescues, even talk about the best rescuers in all history

Rocky (Surprised): Really?

The other pups approach Zuma and see the pages of the book

Rubble (Amazed): Gosh, there are many names.

Marshall: Wow, look at everything he says about this Ashley Zachary.

Ryder looks up in surprise and glances at the pups

Liberty: What does it say?

Zuma: She says that she was one of the best rescuers in the world. She helped with water rescues, flights, helped firefighters, police officers, and builders. And she was a very good recycler

Rocky (Excited): Wow, she had many talents

Zuma: She was a very good rescuer and also a very good person. Everyone wanted to be around her because of her energetic, creative personality and kind heart.

Marshall: Wow, I'd like to meet her in person.

Rubble: Yeah, does she say where she lives or how to find her?

Zuma passed the page and her face reflects sadness

Zuma (Sad): Guys, I don't think we can meet her

Rocky: Why not?

Zuma (Sad): Here she says that, 5 years ago, there was a fire in her house and... she couldn't save herself

The pups are sad

Marshall (Sad): Well... at least her story was not forgotten.

Skye: Yes, it seems that some people claim to have known or heard of Ashley. She was a great rescuer

Rubble: And you, Ryder? Have you heard about her?

Ryder doesn't say anything, but the pups hear a sob.

Rocky (Concerned): Ryder?

The pups put the book aside and approach Ryder.

Skye (Concerned): Ryder, what's wrong?

Ryder wipes away a tear before it falls down his cheek. He turns around with a forced smile.

Ryder (Sad Voice): Uh, yeah, it's okay, puppies.

Marshall (Confused): But, weren't you...?

Ryder (Sad Voice): I'll be back in a minute, okay? I think I left something in the garage

Ryder left quickly, taking his bowl of cereal with him.

Zuma (Concerned): What's wrong?

Chase walks down the stairs and over to the pups. He gets confused seeing his friends worried

Chase: What's up, pups?

Rocky: Chase, Ryder got really weird. We were talking about a very famous rescuer, who did great things to help others and who sadly did not survive a fire. And then Ryder got weird.
