"You look amazing honey!" Dad said, brushing my shoulders. "My little kindergartner." I blushed. "Thanks Daddy! Are you going to be at the school to pick me up after?" I laughed, looking up at him. Dad smiled and helped me get my backpack on. "Of course Ivy Bear!" "I love you." I said, hugging him tightly. "I love you too, my princess." I then watched as Dad drove away, leaving me on the sidewalk of my elementary school. "You must be Ivy Greene! Follow me." A kind woman said, ushering me inside.****************
"Are you ready Miss Greene?" The director said, opening the curtain of my dressing room. She had long black hair that hung over her shoulders like weights. "Mhm. I'll be out in a second." I winked, turning towards my vanity. Just then, my phone started beeping. Hm, an unknown number. I clicked on the answer button. "Ivy?" Parker answered. I took a deep breath and smiled as bright as the sun. "Oh god it's you! I thought it was a stalker or something." I joked. "Good luck at rehearsal."
"Thanks." I laughed. "Listen, I have to go. Thanks for the call. I'll save your number." I said, hanging up. I knew what I wanted. Him.
I walked out of my dressing room, taking multiple deep breaths a minute, imagining my father there to comfort me at any moment. I imagined my first day of kindergarten in my head again, remembering the sweet smell of my fathers cologne. "Miss Greene, their ready for you." The director said, opening the red curtain. I was thankful I didn't have her hair.
On the stage was a microphone that awaited me. I felt it's gravitational pull. But then it suddenly stopped. This never happened. Suddenly all I wanted was to go home. But I saw mom in the audience and pushed on. Wasn't she supposed to be at the spa? I supposed she wanted to be here with me more. "Miss Greene, today is just rehearsal as you know, and all we're going to do is ask you a few simple questions. Starting with one about your album, 'After The Tears'."
The person on the loud speaker ran in my ears, almost threatening me to speak. "That'll be alright." I smiled fakely.
After they asked me at least a million questions, I was finally done and ready to go home. The real award show wasn't for half a week. In my dressing room, mom opened the curtain shyly, laughing. "I love these white curtains." "Mom!" I squealed, running to her. We hugged so tight we almost bursted! "Jacklyn, whose calling?" Mom then peered over at the vanity to see my phone ringing. It was Parker. "No one!" I shouted, grabbing my phone and shoving it in my back pocket. "If you say so." Mom took a seat at my vanity and placed her hand on the wooden drawer. "I also love the way they carved these."
"It reminds me of the way Dad used to carve his guitars." I sighed, walking up to mom. "I know. That's why I like them." Mom chuckled, a single tear struggling down her cheek. "It's okay Mom, I miss him too. Everyday, every minute, every milli second." I rubbed a tear away from my eye.
"I love you Ivy." "I love you too." We said, hugging each other tightly.
