It was none other than Edward Stone.
"H-Here is you're coffee, sir." I said, repeated looking away and bringing the serving tray closer to my face, hoping he wouldn't recognize me. I noticed other finished customers putting the chairs back in place and leaving the café. The bell ringed as they stepped out and closed the door.
He slowly stood up in suspicion. Oh no. What should I do now? I started breathing quickly and unevenly.
"Blake," he said strongly, "is that you?" My heart stopped.
How did he find out that quick? Oh, fuck.
"Blake? Who is this Blake?" I asked in a fake shrilly voice. Well this was the first thing that came into my mind.
I know how stupid the idea was. But perhaps it could be enough to convince him that I was just another person with the same face. I never had any experience on how to hide myself from him as we've never seemed have cross paths after that incident at all.
I could not stop my hands from trembling nervously. I don't know how soon this tray was going to fall or break in my own hands.
"Is that you, Blake?" He asked louder and colder than before.
My heart was beating faster. I heaved slowly to control its pace.
Okay.
Maybe I should stop hiding from him. What use of it anyways? He knows who I am. We won't be meeting after this encounter, so it won't hurt to be confident now and tell him in the face, right?
I turned around to face him with an emotionless mask, even though I could still feel my hands shaking continuously. "Yes! It is me. But what brings you in this low-class café? How come it has not hurt your dignity, the very first step you put into this place?"
"Should I not be asking what you are doing here first?" He said as he took the cappuccino in his hand and leaned against the table.
I gaped at him. Was he avoiding my question?
"You didn't answer my question." I snapped angrily.
"There is nothing for you to gain by knowing." He scoffed and soon cocked his eyebrow. "Aren't you avoiding my question now?"
I scowled at him. How dare he!
"I came to work here for earning a living after a jerk of a husband cheated on me and also took my property." I retorted. I hope that hit him hard.
I could not control the smile that spread on my face when I saw the slightest frown on his face. I continued, "And do you know what happened next? He-"
"I feel extremely sorry for you." he interrupted coldly, "but well-to-do men never keep mistakes next to them." He looked down at me and scrunched his nose in disgust.
I momentarily felt a sharp pain in my heart, but it was negligible to the anger inside my veins. He dared to insult me after all he did! My body went totally out of my control. I snatched the hot cappuccino from his hands and poured it on his expensive looking suit.
A shocked gasp left his mouth, and his glare shifted to my face. "Do you know you have crossed the limits?" He spat furiously. "You should have known by now." He turned around swiftly and called for my boss.
Oh no. What even took over me few moments back? Why did I do that?
I panicked.
Thinking about the scenarios that might occur after this made my head dizzier. This cannot happen! I held on to his sleeve pleading him not to inform her but alas, she came out from her room with her eyeshadow palette and gave me a questioning look.
