Steph's POV
___________
After a long ride home from boarding school, all I was really looking forward to do was ride. I stepped of the bus and onto the gravel driveway, thanking the old man. I turned around and the familiar smell of country air and horses filled my nostrils. It was still fairly early after a three hour drive, only five o'clock. The bus sped of down the shiny road. I started walking small steps at a time, taking in everything. It was the summer holidays, which meant I got two months off, and it was great.

Once I saw the old looking stables, I couldn't help but run, despite the heavy bags on my back. Once I reached the old barn I pulled open the door with force, entering and dropping my bags. I closed the door behind me. Nothing had changed, halters still on doors, tack room still the same. I walked over to Shimmer's stall, to then be greeted by a loud bang. This isn't Shimmer, I thought to my self, inspecting. I opened the stall door, a cremello stallion came running out, evidence of fear in his beautiful blue eyes. He reared up, swinging his legs out, I basically just stood there in gaze the whole time.

"Stephanie!" My dad came running in, hugging me.

"Who is this? Where is Shimmer? Why is he in her stall?" I asked, rapid firing questions at him, eagerly awaiting answers.

"Shimmer is fine, she is in the paddock. Don't worry, we've maintained her weight and got someone to ride her. On the other hand," he pointed to a now calm horse. "This is Midnight, we bought him as a show jumper for your mum, but he is crazy."

"Can I work with him?" It came out more of a whisper than anything.

"What? No! Stephanie, are you crazy?" He shouted.

I walked up to the horse holding my hand out and letting him sniff it. He walked forward letting me put my hands on his large face.

"See?" I asked my dad, my blue eyes begging.

"No. Now put the horse away and get inside to see your mother. We haven't seen you in awhile."

The horse followed me into the dark stall. I closed the wooden door behind me. I walked over to the barn door and grabbed my bags.

"I'll show dad," I whispered, then closed the door behind me.
