AN: Back to the present with this chapter!
"What are you doing here?" He asked in a slithery voice, much raspier than you remembered.
"I was...looking for a memory," you started in a tensed tone but relaxed toward the end of the sentence, shoulders relaxing and giving a warm smile. His own expression didn't change, something you could see clearly now that he was without his father's hand. It was that of confusion and anger. "Where's Daddy Dearest?" You chuckled and pointed to his face.
"Back at our current base," he answered literally, not giving in to your teasings.
The two of you stood in awkward silence, blinking at one another. The hints of confusion he had in his expression left, the anger sticking around. Your eyes widened and you gave a weak smile as you waited for him to say something else.
"You didn't have to show me that earlier," he noted through clenched teeth. "You know how much seeing Mon breaks me. The one thing I remember..."
"That's why I had to do it," your voice was weak as you felt a lump in your throat. The immediate helpless image of someone you cared for grieving over something you had cast on them absolutely destroyed you.
"He killed Magne. And took Compress' arm," he glared at you. "And you took his side."
"What else would you expect? He's my boss and I was doing what I was told."
"I thought you weren't interested in the villain agenda. I thought you didn't want to murder others. You wanted to live a normal life." It was clear that he meant his words to be daggers.
"That's not what he wants, Tomura," you defended yourself. "He's...working on a way to remove quirks."
"Remove quirks?" His eyes widened with curiosity. "Well then...I can see why you're working for him."
"What are you doing here?" You quickly changed the subject considering you didn't want to think about Chisaki in the moment. "If this was a temporary base and since the walls are destroyed, what business do you have coming back?"
"I like to come here to be alone," he answered with the same calm yet angry expression.
"Oh..." you replied back awkwardly, expecting some sort of different answer or at least something you could continue the conversation with.
"Tell me more about your new master's vision," he broke the silence, obviously taunting you about being under Chisaki.
"I don't know what I can and can't share," you shook your head.
"Obviously he was able to do something to Mr. Compress," Shigaraki began pondering, still looking you dead in the eye. You knew you could look him in the eye based on what you'd discussed in your past, but with the clear rift between you it felt like you shouldn't. "He couldn't use his powers for almost twelve hours. So whatever it is...it isn't perfect."
"It's not," you confirmed, "but they're close. I know it."
"Are you going to take whatever it was as soon as it's ready? Are you going to be their little guinea pig?" He smirked and crossed his arms over his chest. "What if it kills you?"
"He won't let me have it until it's perfected and been tested on someone else." You hadn't realized it, but a blush had formed in your cheeks. Shigaraki took notice.
"He's more than just your boss, isn't he?" He asked, again through a serious expression, dropping his arms to his side.
"We're...friends," you nodded with an awkward smile. The two of you still hadn't discussed anything of what you were.
