Here we go again. I took a deep breath and slowly walked through the doors of Asher High School. Home of the Lions. Students filled the hallways talking amongst themselves and putting their extra belongings in their locker. I hiked my bookbag up on my shoulder and put my head down as I walked to find my designated locker. I hated my parents for this reason, every few months after strange murders happened we moved.
It made me become wary of my own parents. Cause everywhere we went the murders started to happen again in the town we moved too a couple months later. All the bodies were completely drained of blood. The news crews called the murderer The Vampire Killer; not the exactly what I would've called the psycho, but it caught everyone's attention. I shook my head as some of my old friends faces flashed across my eyes.
Those friends were now dead. I blamed myself for not going with them to the party they went to that night. I probably could've helped prevent it, but I knew that was just wishful thinking. I looked up and quickly pulled out my classroom schedule. I was flabbergasted by the courses they were having me take:
Class Schedule:
1st period: Chemistry & Physics 101
2nd period: English
3rd period: Art
4th period: World History
5th period: Mythology
6th period: Calculus
7th period: Gym
I've never been in such advanced classes before, but I always loved a challenge and this definitely was a challenge. I smiled just thinking about it. I found my locker and tried the combination on the top of my schedule, but the stupid lock wouldn't give. "Ugh, you've got to be kidding me." I said in dismay. I hated having lockers that got stuck. They only slowed you down. I felt a presence behind me as I continued to struggle with the lock and quickly looked over my shoulder to see who my distraction was. She was a slender but had a curvy body that took away from the slenderness. Her long curly blonde hair hung over her shoulders and down her back that stopped just above her rear. She had deep green eyes, high cheekbones, full lips that made a thousand watt smile. "Hi, I'm Amanda! Your the new girl right?" I was taken aback by her friendliness that all I could do was stare at her with my mouth wide open like I was a weirdo. Say something stupid! "Yes, I'm Anastasia Rolanski." Amanda smiled again and thrusted her hand out. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I noticed your having a hard time with your locker, may I help?" "By all means, I hate lockers like this."
I took a step back and handed her the schedule so she could get the combination. It was open in only under a minute. "How in the world did you get it open so fast?" She laughed at me and said, "Trust me, you'll be a pro in no time especially at this school. You and I have 1st, 3rd, and 6th together so I can take you to your first class. If you want." I smiled at her again and nodded my head. I grabbed a pen and two notebooks out of my backpack then hung my backpack on the hanger. I turned to Amanda after closing my locker and said, "Shall we?" Amanda laughed and said, "Wow, your in a rush to get to class. The bell won't ring for another ten minutes!" I gave her a bewildered look.
"It's that early?" She nodded. "Yeah." I shook my head still processing when a group of guys walking around a corner caught my attention. There was five of them, all of them were wearing black leather jackets and had black hair. But my attention was the one who was staring right at me. He had short black hair that he styled to spike up at the front, he had a black cross earring in his right earlobe that dangled just above his shoulder, his bright blue eyes were cold and persuasive, his high cheek bones and full lips demanded attention, his broad shoulders and muscular build looked as if they were pure steel. He smiled at one of his friends but never removed his eyes from mine. A quiver started deep inside me. It made me shake from the feel of it.
I had to break the stare. "Hey, Amanda, can you show me around a little bit?" She nodded and turned to lead me down the hallway that was directly behind us. I started to follow her when a hand caught my elbow and turned me around to face them. It was the guy staring at me. God, he's so hot, I thought. He gave me a bad boy smile and said, "So your just gonna stare at me and not introduce yourself?" My face started to get hot. "If you want to get technical you were staring at me first." He chuckled. "Wouldn't mind doing it again either. I stare at what I want." I shook my head. "Please tell me that's not the only thing you got. Cause I'm telling you it's terrible." He laughed a heavenly laugh that wrapped itself around me drawing me to him. I mentally shook myself to keep from actually leaning into him.
What is wrong with me? Get yourself together! "Where are you from?" He asked. "A small town in New York called Troy." He whistled. "Your a long way from home. What made you move to Asheville?" I looked down at my feet and shook my head. "I wish I had the answer to that." He gently put his hand under my chin and forced me to look at him. "You don't seem happy with this decision. Does your family keep moving around or something?" I gasped at his guess. "Your either very good at guessing or a mind reader." He laughed. "No, I'm just really good at reading people." I smiled at him but was distracted by the bell. "Skip with me?" I smiled. "Why? What could you possibly get out of skipping class with me?" He leaned into me so close that our lips were just a breath apart. "Getting to know you, is better that learning anything in this place could teach me."
My face started to get hot again. "I'm sorry, maybe next time?" Before I could turn to leave he pushed me up against the wall and pressed himself against my body keeping the breath of air between our lips. I let out a gasp of surprise but held my ground. He gave me a lazy smile. "It'll be fun. That I can promise you." It was getting a little hard for me to breathe and felt as if my heart were going to pound out of my chest. I looked up into his eyes, only to see curiosity, amusement, and longing. I tilted my head to the side and said, "I'm not the kind of girl that skips class, but you can take me out later if you want?" He smiled a wicked smile. "I look forward to it." He whispered. I shivered as he backed away from me and walked back to his friends. I turned to Amanda who was looking at me with complete fascination. "I've never seen Jace go for any girl in this school. But immediately he went straight to you." I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know, I'm just as clueless."
I had made it through half of the day now I just needed to make it through the rest of the day. I grabbed a buffalo chicken salad from the deli part of the cafeteria and a ranch squeeze. I started walking towards an empty table when Amanda waved me over. I smiled and walked over to her little group at the table and sat down in the empty chair. "Anastasia, this is Damian, Harley, Fiona, and Devin. They're really cool people and I told them who suddenly became interested in you."I blushed and said, "You didn't." She laughed manically. "I totally did." I looked to Damian who had made a weird noise and was starring at something behind me. I turned my head to the side and turned around to see him walking towards me. Oh boy, here we go again. I already could feel the quivers deep in the pit of my stomach. He stopped right in front of me and gave me that slick smile of his. I shook my head at him. "What is it with you and that slick smile of yours?" He laughed and bent down laying his hand flat on the table so he could tower over me and still be close to me. I looked into his ice blue eyes that looked as if they held the secrets to the world, I couldn't look away. I was trapped. "Don't tell me that you don't like it, cause you would be lying."
I smiled. "I never said I didn't like it now did I?" He chuckled and leaned down so that his lips hovered above mine by what seemed like only a breath away. "No you didn't, but it's okay. I'll eventually hear the truth come from those sensual lips of yours." His voice was deep and lustrous. I licked my lips to wet them and watched his eyes watch my tongue's every movement. He groaned. "Don't tease me, Anastasia. I'm not the kind of guy that takes teasing very pleasantly." I laughed. "What makes you think I'm teasing you?" He smiled, then brought his lips to my ear so he could whisper, "You have no idea what you can do to me." I smiled. "Your being modest." He shook his head and whispered, "No, I'm being honest." I pulled my head back only to feel the brush of his lips on mine. I gasped as an electric shock sparked throughout my whole body.
He smiled as if he too had felt that exact feeling. I searched his eyes and found that my suspicion was right, he had felt the spark. "You never quite introduced yourself when we first met. You know my name and I know yours but it's better to hear it from the person." He smiled. "I'm Jace." "I'm Anastasia."
