After acquainting herself mostly with Sunoo and Jungwon, they both invited Hana to go downstairs and get lunch. She hadn't eaten since leaving home, so she accepted, eager to fill her empty stomach.
Navigating through three flights of stairs and several hallways filled with curious glances from other boys, Hana and her roommates arrived at the expansive cafeteria. It was vast, though not as sophisticated as the Soumu High cafeteria, which had been under the management of Principal Yuju, a woman known for her refined taste.
They ordered food, which looked delicious, and settled at one of the many tables. Hana found herself sitting with Sunoo and Jungwon, while Ni-ki chose a seat farther away.
As they began eating, Sunoo started a conversation about their strict teacher, Ms. Hwang, but it quickly ended when three unfamiliar boys approached their table.
One of them looked particularly familiar to Hana, though she couldn't quite place where she knew him from.
"Hello, losers," the guy in front greeted them, earning a groan from Jungwon.
"What do you want, Jiwoo?" Jungwon asked wearily.
Jiwoo glanced at Hana for a moment before turning his attention back to Jungwon. "Who is this? New roommate?" His voice made Hana shiver slightly with recognition, though she couldn't pinpoint where she had heard it before.
Before Hana could respond, Jungwon answered firmly, "His name is Haru, okay? And you'd do well to stay away from him. He's under the special care of the Principal."
Jiwoo's gaze lingered on Hana, a smirk playing on his lips. "And why would he receive that kind of treatment? Who is he?" His tone held a hint of mockery.
"And why does that matter to you, Minjoon? Can you just leave us alone?" Ni-ki interjected heatedly, his eyes fixed on Jiwoo and his friends.
Hana observed silently, feeling the tension rise at the table. Jiwoo and his friends exuded an air of trouble, their presence unsettling to everyone except Jungwon, who remained calm, and Ni-ki, who seemed ready to confront them.
While the boys exchanged barbs, Sunoo leaned closer to Hana and whispered, "Don't worry, Haru. This is a fight you're uninvolved in. Best to stay quiet like me."
Hana nodded subtly, grateful for Sunoo's reassurance. She smiled lightly at him, and he returned the gesture before turning his attention back to the unfolding confrontation.
"So," Jiwoo suddenly addressed Hana directly, causing her to freeze as all eyes at the table turned towards her, "What's your name?"
Jungwon intervened again, speaking firmly, "I already said his name is Haru, Bang Haru."
"I believe he can answer for himself, right Jungwon?" Jiwoo's voice dripped with sarcasm.
Hana kept her head down, focusing on her food, her heart pounding in her chest. She was afraid that if she looked up, Jiwoo might see through her disguise. Her features were too soft, too feminine to pass convincingly as a boy upon closer inspection.
