Ember yawned and stretched in the morning sun. She had spent the night in a hollow in the roots of a beech tree and she was ready to go on with her travels. She still remembered that dreadful night 2 moons ago when Twolegs had captured and killed her mom and two sisters. She shuddered and then thought fiercely, Don't think about that now, Ember, you have to find a place to settle. She had found a different place, by a stream, but a badger had chased her away, as the place had been close to her set. She shook her head, trying to get rid of there thoughts. Then she ran up a hill and gasped. Before her lay a giant lake, with moor, forest, and marsh bordering it.

Sorry for the short chapter! I wanted it to end with Ember finding the lake. I promise the next chapter will be longer! I am sure you are wondering how Ember will be able to communicate with the cats. Since I don't want to make it complicated with how Ember learned how to speak cat this is an AU where foxes and cats speak the same language.
