Shila looked at Tim, wore that fake smile and turned her attention outside the window of the speeding van.
Tim and shila met about three hours ago but she was now in a van full of men. Strangers to her.
She was nervous but the journey will soon be over. They were now approaching Naivasha halfway Nairobi.
Her friend Claire ditched her to spend the night with her boyfriend after she had convinced shila to accompany her to Nakuru and watch the military men Ulinzi stars take on the Wazito FC.
Unfortunately Ulinzi lost the match as this guy seated next to Shila scored two brilliant goals to send Wazito straight to the finals.
Shila was at her sister's shop when Tim came to withdraw some cash.
As much as she wanted to keep quiet, she found her mouth blurting all over."You look familiar?" She began.
Tim just glared at her and continued with his business.
"How rude." She thought to herself.
"Sorry for that, I'm Tim."
"Shila." She said stretching out her hand to greet the current celebrity.
Tim smiled. Her hands were so soft and he immediately felt a spark.
"You are him, you were great yesterday."
Tim had been delighted to meet such a beautiful football fun.
****************************
Shila hated the stench of sweaty men in the van but what irritated her most was all the stares she got from the guys. After all she was the only lady in the van.
She ignored them as she sunk into her sad thoughts. Soon after the match between Ulinzi and Wazito, she had ran home only to find her dad banging another woman.
Those images of her naked father with her highschool teacher will never elude her mind.
She will soon discover that her father's occasional school visits were not just because of academic affairs but also due to personal benefits.
Tim noticed her noticed her wet eyes.
"Heey, watsup!"
"It's nothing, just remembered something."
"You can talk to me you know."
"Thanks but it's kinda personal."
Tim had to back down but he knew what to do. She appreciated the warm hug received from Tim.
She thought of him as a kind hearted human being and she began to like him.
Just then her phone beeped. It was her mom texting.
"Honey, I'm so sorry you had to find out this way."
She was hesitant but she replied. She was sure that her dad had sent her mom after she saw him with her teacher.
"Mom I'm a grown up why hide about the divorce."
"It happened so quickly and I didn't know how to tell you this."
Shila put her phone back in her pocket after reading her mom's last message.
"I'm a fucking grown up." She shouted.
Everyone stared at her and that's when she realized that she was loud.
"Throw out that crazy b**ch." One guy shouted in the van.
Tim shot up from his seat and went straight to the guy but luckily the captain came in between before hell broke loose.
The van came to a stop at a gas station and the players stepped outside to have a gasp of fresh air while some had to answer short calls.
"You need something to eat?" Tim asked shila.
"Uuum maybe a cold soda."
"I'll be back in a flash."
Shila watched him walk out of the van. Perfect strides. His height was perfect to her, not that tall or short, she loved his dark skin complexion and most importantly he was a protector.
He was willing to fight his own teammate for insulting her, a girl he had just met.
"Can't wait to tell Claire about him." She thought to herself.
Shila then stepped out of the van to avoid crump just by sitting on one butt for nearly two hours.
They were soon back on the road and much to Tim's delight, shila was more talkative than before. How he loved a talkative lady.
What began as a boring journey had just transformed into a rather enjoyable one. They were occasionally looking outside the window watching the beautiful sceneries along the highway.
They were soon at Nairobi making their way through the usual busy traffic.
Shila was dropped off at the gates of The University of Nairobi and as soon as she was in, he began missing her.
He used to suffer for getting too attached to people and he was again the victim.
Shila disappeared into the universities hostels vowing never to ride a bus with a bunch of men ever again.
As they drove away, Tim wondered when he would next see her.
