We sit there for a few minutes, trying to wrap our heads around what just happened.
"I was never safe." I mumble.
"Hey." He places his hand on my cheek, moving my face to look at him. "It is not your fault. You had no way of knowing."
"I thought I was safe after I lost my memories. That nothing could get me." Tears form.
"I know you feel guilty. That you could have done something but even with your memories they could have come after you. They saw an opportunity and took it." He smooths his thumb over my cheek. I nod looking down. "I think we should tell the others and report what we have heard."
"Do you think it's safe?" I face him. "What if the angels take my memories away if they know?" He moves his hand from my cheek, taking my hand in his. Smoothing the top.
"I don't know what will happen or why you have your memories back but I do know we need help." He glances back up at me. I take a deep breath, looking down at our hands as I exhale.
"I.." I sigh, closing my eyes. "I hate to admit this..." I look back at his face. "But I'm afraid. I haven't been this afraid since I lost everything." Tears form. He brings his other hand to my cheek, wiping away a stray tear.
"No matter what happens I will be here for you. As long as we are together we'll get through everything." I smile, leaning into his hand.
We sit there for a bit longer before getting up. Walking out of the shop, I glance down the street. Police cars surround the truck that hit Eric. Jace tightens his grip pulling me away from the sight.
We hail a taxi, deciding to go to the Institute. Holding Jace's hand as the taxi drives down the street I can't help looking out the window. I see markings on buildings, people move by faster than mundanes. Things I wouldn't have seen before but can see now.
"Somethings wrong." I look at Jace frowning as I look forward. The driver is taking us in the opposite direction. "Sir, you're going the wrong way." Jace leans forward to talk to the driver.
The drivers face turns revealing a demon. Jace takes out his dagger.
"No." I tell him. "If you kill him we'll crash." Jace looks at me with a worried look before glaring at the driver.
"Your girlfriend is right. Kill me and she dies. After all she is no longer a shadowhunter. Runes won't save her." The demon looks forward, his voice low and croaky. I try the door, finding them locked.
"We're trapped." I look at Jace. He nods, his eyes not leaving the driver.
We sit there in silence as the driver takes us towards my school. Jace slices his hand. I frown looking down at it. He shakes his head as he looks back at the driver. I look forward realizing what he is doing. He is sending a message to Alec.
I turn my head as we pull up in front of Brooklyn Academy of Art. I look back at Jace as he frowns.
"He is waiting for you inside." The driver faces us. I look at him and then the school again. Taking a deep breath I slide out as Jace walks around the car, already out. He takes my hand as we face the school, preparing for whatever happens next.
