We might've stuck out like a sore thumb from what we're wearing but our souls were one with the people at that dance. The song ended and the crowd dispersed. I looked all around me and for a moment I didn't feel too much alone.

I then looked back to where the stranger was supposed to be standing across me but he was gone. I grabbed a small slice of blueberry cheesecake and stood at the yellow table at the corner. I scanned with my eyes across the park but I saw no traces of him.

"He's a good dancer, eh?" I spun around to see someone who looked my age and who wore a blue crisp button-down shirt with a polka-dotted bow tie.

"What?" I said in surprise. He had this gleaming smile on his face which looked as if he was trying so hard to suppress it but to no avail.

"The guy in the sweatpants," he said as he pointed the stranger to me. "You were looking for him, right?"

"No, I actually am not," I denied and sliced my cake. That's when he roared in laughter which was really mortifying because people were now looking over at our table.

"I'm sorry. You are just so amusing. I'm going to call him over," he said while he tried to keep his laughter to himself. I saw him walk through the crowd until he was a few feet from the stranger. I was a three bites away from finishing my cake so I hurriedly stuffed them in my mouth and made my way to the exit before the bow tie man could embarrass me again.

As I neared the outskirts of the dance area, I saw Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds over at one table drinking wine.

"Leaving so soon, dear?" Mrs. Reynolds greeted me with a warm smile as I walked towards them.

"Well, I remembered something I have to finish and hand in tomorrow so I've got to go ahead but this has been a really good night for me. The music is impeccable and so is the food," I said while my eyes caught sight of the stranger and the bow tie man looking for me.

"That's a pity," Mr. Reynolds said. "We'll be seeing you next Thursday then?"

"Of course," I said and formally bid them goodbye as I hurriedly walked away from the park. I looked back and saw people dancing underneath strings and strings of dim yellow round bulbs and a smile crept up my face.

The next Thursday came and by then I had already dressed up accordingly. I had on a black and white-striped pinafore dress over a white long sleeved-shirt and my favorite and well-loved blue saddle shoes over my gray bobby socks.

I walked over at Lucy's and we both went over to the park with little Sienna who wore an adorable vintage blue nautical dress over her small pink doll shoes.

We were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds at the entrance when we arrived.

"Welcome, welcome." Mr. Reynolds was all smiles and for a moment when he saw me, his face scrunched up in recognition.

"The girl who left early! What is your name, dear?" Mrs. Reynolds said as she ushered us inside.
