I'll Be Seeing You

It was now the fifth Thursday dance night and I was running late to meet up with Lucy and Sienna. Painting the whole wall at the children's health center was quite tiring. But the smile in each of their faces made it worth it.

My hair was plastered on my face which was dripping with beads of sweat. Lucy and Sienna were already dressed up and ready to go and I looked like I just finished running a marathon.

"You okay?" Lucy asked and handed me a glass of lemonade.

"Yes. I ran from the health center to here. I don't think I'd be able to come with you guys today. I feel quite bushed and sleepy," I said with gasps of air in between.

"But wouldn't he be waiting for you?"

"Who?"

"You know who," Lucy said with a wink. "What was his name again?"

"I have no idea. We haven't really been talking a lot that night."

"Well, you sure look tired. We'll go ahead then. Get some rest."

"Okay. You guys have fun."

I went straight to the nearby restaurant and ordered a plate of Chicken Caesar Salad which I brought to the park since I didn't want to go home just yet. A couple of people were already starting to dance and I saw Lucy and Sienna hand in hand and twirling.

"You're not dancing?"

I spun around and saw the sweatpants guy from before. He was wearing his dance clothes but in his hands were three corndogs I'm pretty sure did not came from the food prepared for the dance night.

"No. I'm tired and famished." I said and while eyeing his food, "Can you really eat all of that?"

"Yeah, corndogs are best!" He pumped his hands in the air and one corndog fell to the ground. I laughed as I saw his face fell along with it.

"Dang," he said. "I was going to give you one if you asked. But now I can't."

"Don't worry. I have my salad. And I'm not really up for corndogs anyway."

"Here." He handed me one of the corndogs and took a big bite out of the other one.

"I thought you weren't giving any to me."

"Well. Your dinner looks sad."

"No, it's actually quite good. Thanks for this, anyway. Where did you get these?"

"There's a corndog stand out there."

A long moment of silence fell before us and he sat on the blue swing next to me.

"You look really reserved," he said, his eyes looking straight to the people at the dance.
