Trust Is A Feeble Thing

Everything else was fairly uneventful. The rest of the day...there was nothing truly else to worry about. People were alive, people were safe, it felt like just another day, despite the revelations.
Just a normal night.
Well, Kreek and Hyper spent quite a lot of time trying to decipher whatever the hell DJ and Sabrina were on about, with experiments and this not being the end. Kreek could've used his abilities, sure, but he was being careful, choosing to use his special attacks and nothing else. After all, with overuse of his magic, he was scared that it would return.
So instead they tried to figure things out, no magic, just good old theorising.
That night, by the time Kreek came upstairs, it was already late. Tanqr was waiting for him, and he waves. Kreek waves back, before sitting on the desk and thinking.

"Yo, hey Kreek."
"Sup, Tanqr. What do you need?"
"Nothing really, I just wanted to say hey. Tiring day, huh?"
"Yeah, I suppose so."
"You figure out anything with Hyper?"
"No, we didn't. No clue what they're on about, but I reckon it has to do with more rumour fusions." Kreek sighs. "You know, if there's one downside to my power, it takes away the fun of theorizing. It is quite fun, actually."
"Yeah, there's always a downside to these things. Never too good to be true." Tanqr responds.
"Of course." Kreek shrugs, before leaning back against the wall. "You mainly got good things out of your wish though, didn't you?"

"Did I?"
"You got a home, friends, respect..you got everything you wanted out of it, at least."

"...That's true, I did, I suppose." He never really thought of his wish as a miracle, just something necessary. "And you did too, didn't you?"
"I mean I got justice, that's something, but I didn't know my wish would lead to hell. I was trying to help but all I got was pain. That's what being a magical girl is, right?" Kreek sighs. "You're lucky, you know. You and Hyper are."
"What? What's that mean?" Tanqr asks, not sure why Kreek is being cryptic all of a sudden.
"You both made a wish for yourself, right? You didn't for somebody else, you wished for yourself. That's probably what you should do if you're wishing to be a magical girl."
"Didn't you wish for yourself? You wished for the truth, no?"
"I wished for justice to be brought for a friend. I wished for the sake of my entire town. And since everyone was happy, the balance was that sooner or later, they'd be cursed with equal misery. And now they're all dead."
"..Right." Tanqr nods, he gets what Kreek's trying to say to some extent. "You wanna wish for yourself, fight for your own means. Cause if you don't, you take the misery from others around you, and it backfires."
"Yep. That's what life has told me, anyway." Kreek turns to Tanqr. "So I resolved. I'm done with being too nice."
"You know..you're weird, Kreek. You always seem so casual about these things. I'd be sobbing when talking about it if I were in your situation."
Kreek just laughs, but he looks mildly uncomfortable.
"That's what I do! If I make a joke about it and act like it's nothing, it can't hurt me." He says it so cheerfully, it makes Tanqr even more concerned.

"That..cannot be healthy."
"Well, it's working for me now, so I'm gonna continue doing it!"
"This is probably going to bite you in the ass, Kreek."
"Oh, come on!" Kreek turns to Tanqr, smiling but semi annoyed. "That's a problem for future Kreek."
"Future Kreek will be cursing you, then." Tanqr says, much to the amusement of Kreek, who smirks.

"Indeed he will." Kreek turns back to facing space. "So, what did you want to tell me about?"
"Hm?"
"You came in here for a reason, didn't you?"
Tanqr pauses. He didn't really have a reason for talking to Kreek, he just wanted to talk to someone and Kreek wasn't busy. But there's something that's been nagging on his mind for a while now, something that he's wanted to propose for a while now but was still unsure. He still doesn't know Kreek's true opinions on him after all, so this could be a very bad idea. But he might as well give it a shot.

"Not exactly, but..I wanted to ask you something."
"Go on then, shoot." Kreek looks at Tanqr expectantly.

Tanqr exhales.
"I- uh, we're still just..acquaintances, right? Nothing more than allies."

Kreek appears to consider this for a second, but then nods.

"Yeah, why's this relevant?"
"I wanted to ask if we could put that behind us. And you know, be friends. We've been working together for a very long time and it kind of just feels weird how we're still just enemies, it's kind of tiring honestly." It all kind of comes out at once without his consent, but then when it comes out anyways he just lets it. Might as well get his emotions out.

Kreek considers it for a moment, thinking.
"We never officially regarded each other as friends, have we? We're just..acquaintances. That's it." He adds, nodding.
"Yeah. I don't know why, but we just haven't accepted it." Tanqr shrugs.

"Huh. We haven't, have we?"

~~~
"No reason, just passing by." Ryguy turns to Kreek and Tanqr. "You finally made friends, huh?"
"We're just acquaintances." Tanqr stops that idea right in its tracks. "Not friends."
"Alright then, sure."
~~~

Justin chuckles and addresses Tanqr. "Kreek's the guy in your arms, right? You two close friends?"

"Oh, oh no, the opposite of that actually. We're just...roommates or whatever. Just cause we live together doesn't mean we're..uh, overly friendly." Tanqr covers it up and looks away. Justin just raises an eyebrow in response.

~~~
"No, we haven't. We've just said we were acquaintances."
"Yeah, pretty sure everyone was suspicious of that." Kreek sheepishly thinks back to all the times they've just brushed over the topic of their friendship. Maybe it's because they didn't trust each other, maybe it's because they still secretly hated each other, either way they weren't really friends yet.
But they started to become more comfortable with each other at the very least, and by this point...Why are they still denying it?
Maybe there's no trust, still. They can work on that.
Kreek and Tanqr look at each other in silence. They don't need to say what they want to say. There's no need. They know instinctively. They've been through so much together, and yet...
"So, let's make it official, then." Tanqr nods. "We're friends."
"Hell yeah. We're friends."
Tanqr and Kreek shake hands. They're smiling. It feels like a weight has been lifted off of their shoulders.
They're finally going to get to be friends.
On the other side of the door, Hyper quietly moves away with a grin, tiptoeing downstairs and giving a nod to Ashley, who is cleaning the table.
"Oh? What happened?" She asks, curious as to what Hyper heard.
Hyper just laughs.
"Guess who - which famous enemies finally decided to give being friends a shot?"
"Oh, Kreek and Tanqr!" She beams as well. "Finally, might've taken a year, and a lot of work, but we've done it, Hyper!"
"I feel like we're matchmakers, but like, for friends."
"I think that's natural."
