Link is doing his usual patrol of the village. After he graciously decided to create a life in Elrule, he opted to take Sir Envan's title, and what would probably have been Adel's title in another life, as chief of the village. Not as ruler or commander, but as ally and kin. He has worked hard to make Elrule what it was before it was destroyed by Gannondorf's troops. In addition, Hidden Points' relationship with other villages in Elrule are stronger than ever and he has trained men and women all around to become the best knights. Link is confident that when he passes on, should Elrule find itself in dire times, it will have a strong and steady team to help protect it.
Link laughs out loud to know one. Of course it will find itself in dire times. That can't be stopped, but he can help plan for when it does.
After he parted from Adel, he decided to create his own legacy. It was hard, creating it himself without the commands of hire powers. But it gave him the fulfillment he didn't know he needed.
"Daddy!" says a voice behind him. He turns around and smiles as his twin daughters run towards him. "Where's Mommy?"
Something even better than passing his skills on to others is the creation of his own family. Something he has never had, at least not in this lifetime. Things got difficult for Ellemy after she was freed from Elule's dark spirit. After her father found out she and Link were courting, his personality and abusive ways became more obvious. Ellemy spent more and more time with Link at his house, her father banging on his doors all hours of the night. Then he disclosed that he did in fact kill Ellemy's mother. Link was chief knight then but her father fled before Link had the chance to send him to trial. He was never seen again. That was twenty-five years ago...
Ellemy said that it was Link and her children that allowed her to keep going. To Link, despite all she went through, she still seemed whole. Complete. They married shortly after and then had three children. Twin girls and a boy.
"Dad?" says Elule, named in honor of the little girl who wasn't given a chance.
"What's wrong?" says Lillian, their other daughter.
He shakes his head. "I'm just admiring my beautiful children. But your mother is usually at the lake side writing. Did you look there?"
"Come on, let's go, sis."
"Wait now," calls Link. Link looks up at the sky. Almost noon. Then he looks down at his daughters, floored with how much they have grown. Time is slipping away. "Mind if I come with you? I'm on break now anyways."
Hand in hand, they make their way to the lake.
"You were right, Daddy! There she is." They let go of his hands and run towards their mother. She puts down her paper and pen and gives them a hug.
"What are you guys doing here?" she says looking at Link.
"Just thought we would come see you while on break," he says, kneeling down beside her. "How's the writing going?"
"Not bad," she says. "But this commission is putting pressure on me. I have to have this completed by tomorrow morning and I think it's the most important piece of writing I will ever create."
"Read me a passage," he says.
She looks down at her paper, her eyes scanning up and down. Link knows she is looking for a piece she is specifically proud of. "Ok, you ready?"
"Always," he says.
She jokingly clears her throat and then lets out a small laugh. "Alright. For no dates on the calendar, no festival, or reminder; Can scratch our gratitude for your incredible act of valor; And when another era arises, we trust you will succeed; It is part of your plan; as firmly planted as the trees; I hope I'm by your side when the time comes again; With hand in hand, we will end all his plans."
