A girl walked through her house, passing elaborate paintings of fruit and angels. Her parents gave her very mixed information on their religion.
She passed her little brothers room, and peered in. He lay on his bed, drawing. Corben glanced up and when he saw his older sister standing there he immediately slammed his sketchbook shut and chucked a pillow at the door.
The girl snorted and continued her journey to the kitchen for a five PM snack of caramel corn and Gatorade. A typical dinner.
She stepped into the kitchen and rummaged through their black cabinets, leaning on the marble counter. Her tongue stuck out as she reached for the bag of popcorn on the top shelf and she sighed in relief when it didn't fall on her face. And sadly this was from personal experience.
Both the girls sisters sat at their island, they argued back in forth, giving nothing away about what they were arguing about.
The girl rolls her eyes and grabs the fruit punch flavored drink and quietly steps out of the kitchen.
"You'd better have something healthy." Her mother calls.
"Corn is healthy!" She calls back and continues back to her room, ignoring her mothers response about her being unhealthy and nonathletic.
She grunts as she reaches for the small lock towards the top of her door, regretting locking it in the first place. She enters the dirty room and flops onto her bed, in which was covered in blankets. She stares at the small llamas on her sheets as she munches on her popcorn, contemplating it she should watch you-tube on her phone or Disney+ on her computer. This was a typical routine.
Then she heard knocking on the door. Decidedly ignoring it, and being the unsocial person that she was, she prayed someone else would answer it so she wouldn't have to. She had four stinking siblings, and two parents for gosh sake.
She popped a piece of popcorn in her mouth as the door opened and almost dropped the bag when it was followed by a piercing shriek.
The girl immediately fell off her bed and threw open her door. Her brother Corben had the same idea and exited his room after her.
She peered around the side of the wall and her eyes widened when she saw the scene before her. The door was now closed and her mother stood frozen in front of a man who held a gun to her head.
She immediately pushed her brother back and he started to speak in protest. The girls slapped a hand to his mouth and he shut up.
She turned around and the guy was ushering her mother to the other side of the room. She did so and eyed her two children which stood in the hall. She motioned for them to go the other way, but the guy caught on.
He turned to the hall and the girl froze, her brother sucked in a breath and stopped moving completely. If it didn't look as if his heart were going to pop out of his chest she would have thought he had died.
The guy moved his head and both the girl and Corben put their hands up, they slowly walked over to their mom who was hyperventilating and crying.
He looked over to the living room, where the girls two sisters and other brother hid behind a chair, though not very well.
"I see you." The guy called out, and the kids came out from their hiding places.
The guy then started to move around, ransacking the room and taking anything of value. He ended up shoving a few pieces of fine china, a gold locket and other random things which were kind of weird to be stolen.
The guy looked paranoid too. His red hair was plastered to his forehead with sweat and his green eyes darted around, as if he were about to get caught.
The girl slowly reached towards her pocket and pulled out her phone. She tapped the lock screen and a weird picture of her best friend sticking her tongue out showed up as her lock screen came up. She clicked the 911 button and it rang softly. Though the man didn't seem to notice as he grabbed the girls little sisters phone.
"911, whats your emergency?" the girl mentally cursed, the lady on the other side of the line wasn't very quiet.
The guys head shot up and he looked to the girl, eyes wild.
He lifted his gun and bullets flew.
The girls mom, Cindy, cried out in pain as one grazed her thigh and Corben sprinted away, but tripped and landed on his face, crying out.
The girl let out a guttural scream as a bullet rang out and pierced her chest. She fell back and clawed at the island, but not before falling onto her back and sobbing.
"Shit." The guy muttered before sprinting out the front door.
"Hey!" The girl heard her dads voice call as he exited his car.
The screams of her family and the blaring of sirens mixed together as she stared at the ceiling. The pain in her chest intensified as she tried to move, and she cried out. Her shirt clung to her skin, wet with blood.
"Ramona!" Her moms worried voice was the only thing she could hear as she slowly drifted away, sobbing.
She closed her eyes and everything stopped. It seemed as if time had stopped. Everything paused and the girl sat up.
She looked around and stared at her mothers face as she rushed forwards, though she was frozen in place. Her brother Corben sat next to her, clutching his nose and staring at her with wide eyes. Her younger siblings sat together staring at everything with wide eyes. Her dad rushed into the house with paramedics behind him and the lights of police cars flashed, temporarily paused.
As she looked down she let out another scream. She lay on the ground, eyes closed and blood encasing her sticky clothes.
The girl stood and looked down at her body then at her hands. When she saw then she let out another scream. Her hands glowed translucent green, and she stepped back, letting out yet another scream.
She had stepped into her mother. She looked around, panicked and when she looked down at herself she shrieked. A hole sat in her chest, yet it wasn't red, bloody, and surprisingly it didn't hurt. As she gazed around she walked straight through the outside wall, for some reason it had come naturally to her.
She looked around and suddenly time restarted. Her physical body was heaved onto a stretcher and rushed out. A few paramedics swarmed her but after a moment they left, and draped a cloth over her.
It felt like she had been shot in the heart again.
She really had died.
The girls non existent heart practically broke as she watched her girlfriend jog up to an officer. They talked to him for a moment, gazing around, their black eyes full of urgency.
The girls significant other ran over to her body and peeled back the tarp. When tears started to fall, the girl floated over to her girlfriend and stared at them, her own eyes leaking tears.
And then, her dad ran up. Before he could say anything, a gigantic wormhole type thing opened behind her. The girl watched in horror as tendrils reached out, they wrapped around the girls waist, arms and wrists. The girl screamed and pleaded as the tendrils pulled her towards the portal, and as soon as she entered it, a cold sense of dread washed over her.
