It's July of 2014. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are engaged, the Ice Bucket Challenge is in full swing, tons of celebrities' nudes are being leaked, the Kardashians are breaking the internet, and most importantly the music being released seems to be at an all-time high.
Fiona Rivers graduated a month ago somehow. She spent the rest of June doing absolutely nothing with her life and doing the same thing through most of July as well. Or at least that's what her mother thinks. Fiona considered it trying to get back all the wild teenage moments she missed out on back then.
Seeing as she didn't have much of a choice anymore, quickly chose to pursue acting, even though she told her mother she was done. She didn't tell her mother she was leaving until the day of. It ended in a fight. No surprise.
All she has ever wanted was to take her car and drive down an endless highway along the coast. She just wanted to run away and leave everything. Her family would call what she did running. In a way she was, but Fiona knew that she was running into the same spotlight that her family put her in when she was a kid. But now she was doing it on her terms. Not her mother's or Disney's. Her own.
So that day she took her car and drove all the way from Philadelphia to Los Angeles, which took 2 days but it was worth it. Deciding to become roommates with a friend of hers that she worked with would be the greatest decision she ever made. And right before she left the state, she stopped at Target to buy a few things she'd need.
Although she didn't need it, Fiona couldn't stop herself from buying it. She would get annoyed by the snobby girls her age that she knew constantly playing the song about underwear and another song where they dressed up as superheroes. They were so overplayed by those girls and yet the tune would get stuck in her head either way. But her roommate loved them and Fiona knew the only reason she found them annoying was because of those girls. So she thought maybe, just maybe she'd give them a chance.
And within that two-day drive, listening to that album, Fiona Rivers became a fan of 5 Seconds of Summer.
