No one ever called me a freak.

But there Emira was, shouting it at me.

She rarely ever yelled at me, but I really messed up this time. Thanks to me, our parents knew about Viney, and now Emira was in trouble. She had every right to be mad at me.

"YOU HAD ONE JOB, EDRIC!" She sobbed, eyes fiery with anger.

"I'm sorry Em, I didn't mean it-"

"YOU ALWAYS INSIST ON HELPING ME AND HANGING OUT WITH ME, BUT THE ONE TIME I REALLY NEED YOU, YOU RUIN EVERYTHING!"

I took a step forward to comfort her and she went quiet, furious tears streaming down her face.

Softly, she growled at me, "You don't get to apologise, you can't fix this with a hug. You don't get to feel better about messing up. Get out. GET OUT OF MY ROOM."

I backed out, guilty tears wetting my face. "I really am sorry, Emira," I murmured, closing the door solemnly.

All I had to do was keep watch while they went on a date. Easy as pie, but I went and got distracted. I huffed, disappointed in myself. I walked to my room and flopped down on my bed. I can't do anything right. Not for my parents, and not for my sister, I thought angrily.

I spent a good few hours crying into my pillow, but with all these awful thoughts running through my head I couldn't sleep for the life of me. I wiped my eyes and checked the time on my scroll. 3am. Great. I definitely wasn't sleeping tonight.

I got up groggily out of bed, a riveting ache echoing through my skull.

Twigs and leaves crunched under my heels, and the night breeze did manage to calm the stuffy fire in my head. At some point I wandered off the path, lost in my thoughts, and ended up near a cliff.

Nearby I heard sniffling, and I glanced around to see someone sitting under a tree, arms wrapped around their legs as they cried into their knees.
