A whole week of working together and Stevie and Lindsey were both alive and well. He had persuaded her to stay at her big house instead of the apartment, because she had some recording equipment there and they could use it if needed. She had read some of what he had written and he was allowed to get a hold of her journal where all her poems were. He had come up with some melodies on guitar and she added something with the piano, which she didn’t actually know how to play. They sang together, they recorded those little sessions and had some demos already done. It was magical, as Stevie had put it a few times and it truly was. Stevie had often told the story of the Buckingham Nicks recording in ‘a big creepy building, where they spent many nights and eventually fell in love’, this time it was a lot alike, except that they were in her beautiful mansion.
They decided to wrap up for today, but Lindsey wasn’t very happy about going home just yet. Their little project had brought them so much closer together than they had been in years and he wanted to spend time with Stevie too, not just work with her.
His guitar was already in its case and it was about time to say goodbye, but he stood, scratching the back of his head, unsure how to say it. “You’ve got any plans?”
“Not really, no. Why?”
“I was thinking, maybe we could order something to eat and watch a movie, or…”
“Why?” She raised her eyebrow, crossing her arms.
“Well, what do you mean why? Just because.”
“What about Kristen? What does she think about you spending so much time here with me?”
“To be honest, I don’t think she cares.”
Stevie was biting her lip, thinking, while Lindsey was begging her to stop, inside of his head that is. “A movie you say…” He nodded. “Alright, we can do that.”
“Good!” He said excited. “What should I order for dinner?”
“You pick, I’ll decide on what we’ll be watching.”
“Deal.”
Less than an hour later, the two of them had made themselves comfortable in Stevie's living room, on the couch in front of the TV. She skipped through channels and left one on, where some romantic comedy was going to start soon. Lindsey wasn't keen on it, but he wasn't going to say anything either. If she were honest, she would have much rather had a marathon of one of her favorite shows too.
The food was delivered considerably soon after Lindsey had made the call. They finished eating, while discussing what they worked on earlier in the day. He offered to clean up and Stevie brought a blanket from her bedroom, while she waiting for him to join her.
Lindsey stopped for a moment before letting her know he was in the room. This was lovely, so different from what they usually did together, which was playing on stage and then leaving and not seeing each other until the next concert.
Stevie looked over her shoulder, snapping Lindsey out of his fantasies. She patted the space next to her and he half smiled, walking over to sit down. "You're always cold."
"You're lucky I don't have a fire going too."
"What if I'm freezing tonight?"
She raised an eyebrow at him. "You just want to get under the blanket, don't you?"
"I guess, we'll never know." He said, smirking, quickly scooting over to her side, when she lifted it up. They fell silent for a minute, aware of just how close they were. Although, there was no need to think of a way of how to end the awkward silence, as the movie started and they both pretended to be interested in the story.
Consciously or not, Stevie lay down her head on Lindsey's shoulder after some time and he searched for her hand under the blanket, entwining their fingers together. For a second, Lindsey had completely forgotten he was with his ex girlfriend and not with his wife, at home that they shared. This led him to putting his arm around her shoulders and she snuggled closer to his side.
Lindsey had stopped paying attention to the film a long time ago, now he was looking down at Stevie, her head on his chest, the way that he could perfectly see her face. God, she was beautiful... Dressed down, no make up, her hair covering her back. He loved her like this. Wait... Love? Yes, he certainly loved her like this.
It took Stevie some time to realize he was staring. She tilted her chin up and caught his eyes, there was no way he could back out of it. She smiled, looking up at him and he had no idea what came over him, when he brought his hand up to her face, caressing the side of it. His thumb touched her lower lip, then he bent down a little and pressed their lips together. Regaining her senses, Stevie backed off, her eyes wide. For Lindsey it felt too good to stop, so he leaned in again, taking her bottom lip in between his. She knew she was supposed to, but she couldn't fight it. She granted him access as soon as he had asked for it, putting her hand on the back of his neck, to bring him closer. At first shyly, her tongue brushed against his. Feeling her heart starting to beat faster, filled with excitement, she became a little braver, daring to fight him for dominance. He let her have it, while he was battling himself and the need to touch her elsewhere. His hand wandered to her side and she moaned, pushing her body into his. His hand continued its journey, finding her hip and gripped it.
She pulled back instantly and he knew he shouldn't have done it. Any of it.
"I fucked it all up, didn't I?" Lindsey sighed, making some distance between them. "I should probably go."
"I think you should." Stevie agreed, shocked by what just happened.
"I'm sorry." He said on his way out. "Tell me we're okay?"
"We're okay." She nodded, holding onto the door handle and he was standing on the porch. "Just don't do that again."
