Hello, since you decided to hear this story, I think I’ll just start right away.

I want to tell you about someone from the firenation, who’s quite different than the rest.

Her name is Kazumi Chiyoko and she was born on a rather unknown island. That’s because it’s relatively small compered to the island right next to it, Ember Island. However, even though the size of it isn’t that big, the significance of it very much is. You see, if the island and it’s people weren’t there, the Ember Island would definitely not have enough food for all the people.

But that’s all the information you need about it, atleast for now. So, back to the girl I just mentioned, before I drifted off.

As I said, her name is Kazumi Chiyoko and she got these two because of the meaning that was hidden within them. You know, Kazumi means harmony or beauty and Chiyoko is child of eternity or child of a thousand generations. You might not see the connections at the moment, but, so much I can tell you, it will clear up the further you get into the story and her life.

I now will start for real at a time were she was just 5 years old and didn’t know what was still laying ahead of her on the road through her life.

It was still quite early in the morning. A little girl however, with light brown hair and two different colored eyes, one dark brown and the other black, was already running around and giggling to herself as she woke her parents up. The father was grumbling to himself and the mother just sighed with still a smile on her face and got up.

This day was a bit different than usual, starting with the fact that the young girl wanted to help prepare the breakfast rather than to keep annoying her still half asleep parent like she normally would.

After everyone was finally awake and the breakfast eaten, the two adults went to work on the field, while Kazumi went to the beach with a neighboring kid, who had something to do nearby and would keep an eye on her. It’s not like that needed to be done since the girl was extremely responsible despite her still quite young age. However, her parents were more relaxed this way.

Like I said, this day was not same was all the others were before, since this time she met someone, she has never seen before.
While she was playing in the sand, trying to built a castle, a boat came closer and at first she didn’t notice it, since she was very focused. But once she eventually did, she got curious on who it was. It was still to early to be one of their people coming from delivering food. In addition to that, once the boat was close enough to make out the people on it, she realized that the two boys on it, were complete strangers to her.

Kazumi did go a bit into hiding, since she wasn’t used to someone coming to this island. Once the boys got off the boat, she saw that the younger one was about her age and the other one was much older. Right when the girl decided to show herself, the neighboring kid called out her name and startled everyone including themselves.

The older of the unknown boys was the first one to speak after the shock: “I’m sorry, but may I know who you are?”

The child of the village just replied: “I could ask you”, pointing at the strangers, “the same thing and what you are doing here, which does quite interest me.”

“Oh yes, I’m sorry, I forgot about that. My name is LuTen and this is my cousin Zuko. We’re spending some time on the Ember Island with our family and the two of us just wanted to have a little adventure. Isn’t that right, Zuko?”

“Yes, adventures!”, that was all the little boy called while raising his hands and giggling.

The attention was then again returned to the two older kids, with the boy called LuTen asking: “Would you now be so kind to answer my question?”

“Well, I guess it’s alright. I’m Kitai and the girl over there is Kazumi. We both live on this island.”

“It’s nice to meet you two and I’m sorry again for just showing up here with my cousin.”

While LuTen and Kitai talked with each other, the two little ones too started to interact with one another. However, it was Zuko who made the first step.

“So, you’re Kazumi, right? I’m Zuko and I’m already 6-years-old.”, the lively boy said.

“What?! Six?! That’s one year more than me!”, the girl exclaimed happily.

They did talk a bit more, but also continued building the unfinished sand castle.

Around midday the older kids both decided that it was time to go back to their families, since soon it would be lunch time. That however, did not sit well with the younger ones and they only accepted it after LuTen promised to come back with Zuko some other time and the later one would make sure they did.

As all of them made their way home, it was clear that a new and good friendship just had started. Although a friendship between young kids usually doesn’t hold very long, as you might know. However, that didn’t really apply to the one of Kazumi and Zuko.

After their first meeting the little boy kept showing up with his older cousin and not long after an older looking man accompanied them. In the beginning the girl was scared, but she learned quite fast, that this man was no one to be scared of. He was the father of LuTen and a very nice, tea-loving adult. She got to know all that, because of Zuko since he proudly told her about his uncle Iroh.
