Kazumi ran towards the crowd and got scared that she would be too late. However, one of the captured rebels was faster than her and started speaking, “Leave these people alone! You want us, don’t you?! Then leave them alone, they don’t know anything!”
The harsh response from the soldier in charge came within seconds as he turned around to the prisoners, “If we have to go through them to get to you criminals, then we will do it! Or are you now willing to talk to save the villagers?”
Kazumi saw the man biting his lips and thinking of what to do next, since the situation was really hard for him. She understood, that he either had to rant out his friends to save the villagers or he could keep his mouth shut to help his friends, but in turn endanger the villagers, which they promised to protect. She didn’t want to think about how hard it must be for him in this very moment.
The girl had slowed down when the rebel spoke and had now arrived in the front rows of the crowd to confront the soldiers, “Why are you doing all of this?”
Everyone turned towards her and had very puzzled looks on their faces. Since she noticed, that she wouldn’t get an answer, she started speaking again, “Okay, let me rephrase that. Why can’t you leave this village and its people alone? They haven’t done anything to you, or have they?! And the men you put in handcuffs, were only protecting these innocent people from you, if I understood that correctly.”
The soldier in command started to loose his puzzled look and it turned into an angry one instead, while he spate out, “Who do you think you are little girl to question us firenation soldiers?!”
“My name is Kazumi and I’m not a little girl anymore.”, she said with a calm and collected voice.
The soldier looked her up and down with a judging look, before he opened his mouth to speak again, “Not a little girl anymore, you say? How old are you, ten?”, he started laughing and his comrades did as well, “Where are your parents, little girl?”
“Stay calm, Kazumi. Remember what mom always told you.”, the girl whispered and closed her eyes in order to not get angry at the man’s words.
The people around watching the scene were astonished at the young girl’s courage, but they were also scared for her since they knew all to well how those soldiers could be if someone stepped in their way. The woman Kazumi spoke to before had joined the crowd again as well and now tried to pull her away before she got hurt.
Kazumi had a strong stance and wasn’t able to be moved. The look in her eyes was full of determination but also thoughtful as she thought of the best possible next move. She saw her moment to charge as the head of the soldiers turned his back towards her. She softly whispered to the villagers to get back, loud enough for them to hear but quiet enough to not warn the soldiers.
In a quick and smooth motion she bent down, extended her leg and flung it around at the soldier’s legs to make him fall face first on the ground. Right when he hit the ground, Kazumi was standing on her feet again. For a moment everyone was frozen, there was not a single sound and if someone had dropped a needle, it would have echoed and been heard through out the whole area.
However, the young girl was alerted because she knew that the soldiers will strike back any moment now since she has started the attack. So, it didn’t come as much of a surprise to her when one of them on her left started to move again. He got his fist up, aimed at her and bended fire. Kazumi ducked under the fire to not get burned, but she didn’t see the soldier on her other side in time and felt a quick pain in her arm as his fire did touch her a little.
She held the scream in and used it’s strength in her next attack, when she punched one of them in the stomach and kick the other ones knee, which made them tumble over and followed their leader’s example by falling to the ground.
The young girl fought pretty well, considering how many men came on her at once. She had to take a few hits, but returned them in only a second or maybe two. While she was busy with the soldiers, new people showed up out of nowhere and went straight to the rebels that were still surrounded by 3 soldiers. Each of the new arrivers took on one of the soldiers and the extra one of them, went to open the handcuffs of the rebels and free them in the process.
Kazumi didn’t notice much of this whole action because she still had her hands more than full with her opponents. The people that saved the three men wanted to run away right after, but the rebels ran towards Kazumi, who was surrounded by soldiers. The first one to be by her side and fight of the men in uniform, was the young man, who talked right before the girl had intervened. It took only a few more minutes until the firenation soldiers were defeated and took of.
That’s also when Kazumi fell to the ground panting and hurt. As the adrenaline declined slowly, she started to feel the full extend of her wounds especially the one on her arm from the beginning. She saw people standing around her and someone kneeling next to her on the ground, but she couldn’t see or hear them clearly anymore as she started to black out from all the pain she was feeling.
The person next to her put a hand on her shoulder as they noticed that the state, she was in, worsened steadily. They kept calling out for her but there wasn’t any sort of response coming from her. Right when she started to fall towards the ground, one more person reached with their hands for her. She was caught before she touched the floor and that’s when she lost consciousness completely.
