Swear by the Stars (Eleventh Doctor)

Summary: The Doctor has fallen in love again. This time with a girl named Adrianna.

The Doctor bounced into Adrianna's room. "Ready for an adventure?" he asked her.

She turned and gave him a sweet smile that made the Doctor's hearts pound. "I'm always up for an adventure." She got up from her bed and followed him to the control room where he danced around the console making her giggle.

The Doctor loved making her laugh.

River once called him 'a lovesick fool' when it came to Adrianna. "She looks at you like you hung the stars in the sky one by one by hand, specifically for her."

"She does not!"

"Be careful, my love. You don't want a repeat of her, do you?"

The Doctor stared unseeing at the controls of his TARDIS. He hadn't spoken her name since regenerating.

In fact, this body hardly ever thought of her. Of the woman who was ripped away from him. The blonde that now lived (and had adventures) with in a parallel dimension.

He'd loved her. He knew he did, even if he never said it out loud. She was the human half of him. The better half of him. But he had moved on. He never thought another woman would be able to hold that place in his heart.

And then he met Adrianna. She gave him a reason to care about humanity again. He had crash landed in her backyard after regenerating and in turn, she had crashed into his hearts.

She cared for him as he recovered from his rough regeneration. He opened up to her more and more and found himself falling in love with her. She was his best friend, his confidant. He told her everything and she listened to him, offering him advice. He didn't know what he would do without her.

River was afraid of Adrianna becoming too attached to the Doctor, but he was just as attached to her. "This will end badly, trust me," River told him.

The Doctor ignored her, but River was right just like she always was.

When they entered the TARDIS, the Doctor was quiet. The adventure had not gone as planned and someone had tried to use Adrianna as leverage against the Doctor.

"I think you should go home," he told her.

"Doctor?"

"You're not safe with me."

"Neither is crossing the street or driving a car."

The Doctor walked over to her and cupped her face in his hands. "I can't give you what you want, no matter how hard I try. You'll wither away and die and I'll remain here. Without you. I can't lose you. I...I won't survive it this time." He pressed his forehead to hers, willing the tears in his eyes to go away.

Adrianna lifted her hands to wrap around his wrists. "Oh, my poor Doctor."

"You'll die because of me or you'll leave me. They always leave."

"I won't leave you."

The Doctor let go of her and turned away, but Adrianna pulled him back to her.

"Look at me." Adrianna placed her small hands on his cheeks and turned his face to hers, looking into his beautiful emerald eyes. "I will never leave you, even if something happens to me. Because the ones we love never truly leave us. They remain with us in spirit and you can always travel back in time to see me. It won't be the same and it'll hurt for a while, but then you'll remember all the good times we had together and you'll smile. I know you never forget the ones who have touched you."

She'd seen the weight of the losses on him and she tried her best every day to help him carry it. "Promise me you won't forget me. No matter what."

"I promise. By yonder blessèd moon I vow..."

Adrianna smiled when she realized what he was doing. "O, swear not by the moon, th' inconstant moon."

"What shall I swear by?"

"Swear by the stars. The beautiful blazing stars."

"I swear by the stars that I will never forget you." Then he kissed her, another oath on his lips. And I will never love another like I love you.

The older the Doctor became, the more his memory began to fade. Names of companions from long ago forgotten, but he kept his promise to Adrianna.

His sweet Adrianna Pond.

A/N - Yes, Adrianna is somehow related to the Ponds. Maybe I'll revisit this someday, but it's left up to the reader to decide how she's related to Rory, Amy, and River.
