Prologue

Narrator:

It's been two years since Vander died, Vi died, and even the Powder Ekko used to know.
He walked slowly inbetween a dark ally. Ekko wore a dark jacket and his hood up covering his face. Because of shimmer, silco and life in general he had to learn to grow up fast if he wanted to live. Just as he passed a corner he heard a girl wailing, and a group of boys and girls snickering. He paused and was about to keep walking till he heard a loud bang.

"PLEASE! S-STOP"
"You little bitch!"
"Try to steal from us again you filthy shit!"
"You want some attention?"
A small girl was backed against a brick wall as an older boy lifted her up pinning her, a group of other teenagers crowded around her. She looked young maybe a little younger than Ekko himself but just by the looks of it she had no chance. The boy leaned in his face scrunched up, "I'll give you some attention you whor--"
Ekko grabbed a large metal pipe and cracked it on the boys head.

The kids scattered, their eyes widening.
Ekko grabbed the girls wrist and yelled, "RUN!"

As he dragged her behind him he shoved them both in a small opening

"H-hey are you?" Ekko panted looking at the girl but just as he spoke she punched him right in the face. "Aw shit man!" Ekko cried his eyes watering. "Im not going to hurt you! Please don't leave!!"

The girl fell on the ground her eyes widening tears streaming down her face.
"Sorry." She whispered.
"It's fine...how old are you?"
"Why?" She asked suspicion casting her face.
Ekko sighed, "I'm Ekko"
"I'm June"

Five years later

"EKKO!!!!" June shouted her voice loud and bubbly. She's done it, she finally got her machine to work.

Ekko zoomed in his face covered in worry, "what! Are you okay?"
June grinned her long hair swooping back and forth as she walked around her table, "I DID IT!"

Ekko groaned shaking his head, "god June I thought you got hurt."
June rolled her eyes, "you need to relax ekko...but look!"
She grabbed his hand and forced it to touch the hoverboard.
"What is it?"
"It's a hover broad. I just tried it out...I think if I have the right materials and I work more on it I can get it more advanced and make mroe for everyone else but try it!!!"

She grabbed the board and set it on the ground, her eyes sparkled as Ekko carefully stepped on. With a little balance here and there  Ekko was already in the air flying around the room.
"HOLY SHIT JUNE THIS IS AMAZING!!!" He shouted.
June grinned, she hadn't seen Ekko so happy in awhile and to see him grinning again made her happy.
June helped him down and grabbed her notepad writing down adjustments.

"You know...you sometimes remind me of a girl I used to know." Whispered Ekko staring at the diagrams June had on the wall.
June smirked, "oh yea powder? "
Ekkos cheeks grew pink , he looked away, "I mean when I was younger powder would always create things...I mean they wouldn't normally work but then again she was like 7."

June was used to Ekko telling stories about his past family, she knew how much it meant to him so even though sometimes when Vi or Powder come up and it would sadden the whole moment she always appreciated it, it was as if she knew them too.

June wished she could've met them...technically not all of them were dead but even though jinx was alive the powder Ekko spoke of was not.
She smiled and wrapped her arms around him.
"Don't cry" she teased.
He rolled his eyes and pushed her away pretending to act annoyed .

3 years later

June looked over at Ekko waiting for his approval, with a flick of his wrist and a curt nod her and the other Firelighters flew on their board zipping along their target.
June grinned as the wind pushed past her, her hair free and wild. She grabbed the board with her left hand adjusting her body doing a small flip in the air while simultaneously grabbing a chunk of the crystalized powder and throwing it at Silcos workers.

With ease June jumped off her hoverboard lunging on top of the carts and grabbed her sharp blade from her side pocket aiming it at any of silco's workers but they were all stuck against the boxes

She smirked and looked over at Ekko and the other lieutenants.
"I've never seen so much shimmer before"
"They are expanding...get rid of them all!" Ekko said through his mask which deepened his voice.
June grabbed one of the shimmer carts and knocked it over.
This. This malicious creation was the reason why everyone she loved was gone.
She kicked another one down anger fuming inside of her.

All of a sudden the ship shook.
A steam of smoke erupted from down stairs, slow footsteps entered and there stood the devil herself.
"Hi"
