When June woke up the next morning, her phone's alarm had been going off for about ten minutes. Of course, Allison was already up making breakfast and June groaned from the living room sofa where she had fallen asleep."Good morning sunshine," Allison smiled as June shut her alarm off, "Hey."
"Want some orange juice? Maybe some water?" Allison asked and June sat up, rubbing her eyes.
"I'll take some coffee. Do you have a sweater or something I can wear to work today that doesn't smell too much like booze and cigarettes?"
Alli laughed and nodded, "Yeah! Choose whatever you'd like."
June got up slowly, still feeling a little dizzy from last night and she stumbled down the hallway into Allison's room. Alli's parents moved to Florida the summer after they graduated high school, but they kept their property in Birch Run and Allison was renting it from them. It was a little crazy to June that Allison basically had her own house now, but at least it was familiar to her. She grabbed the biggest sweatshirt that Allison owned and went ahead to take a shower.
The hot water instantly helped her to feel better, washing away her tiredness and the stress of what happened last night. She couldn't help but continue thinking about Jake and the way they danced together last night. Of course, she didn't want to mention this to Allison because she hated when her friend was right about something. Not to say that Jake was necessarily her type, but she wouldn't mind spending more time with him if the opportunity arises.
She tried not to think about anything as she continued her routine in the shower. When she got out, she got dressed and looked at herself in the mirror, sighing at the thought of going into work. June liked her job, it was fun although she just worked at an ice cream shop and didn't necessarily love cleaning up after obnoxious children. She brushed her hair quickly and headed to the kitchen, smiling at the warm mug of coffee waiting for her.
"Thanks Al, you're the best!" June took the mug in her hands and sat at the dining room table to enjoy it.
"Of course! What time do you have to work?"
"12."
"You do know that's in 20 minutes right?" Allison laughed and grabbed her car keys.
June groaned and closed her eyes, "Damn I thought I'd at least have forty-five minutes."
"You always think that," Allison grabbed June's bag and handed it to her, "Come on. You can drink your coffee on the way."
June sighed and got up, following her friend out of the house. When they got in the car, Allison turned on her pop playlist and June took bigger gulps of her coffee, begging her headache to go away.
"I mean, it is only Wednesday. Maybe work will be slow," Alli smiled as the pulled away from the house and June chuckled, "Yeah hopefully. Except I know I work with Sam today and he never shuts the hell up."
Allison laughed and nodded, "You've mentioned that. I'm sure he'll understand if you tell him to shut up."
"I always do even when I'm not hungover," June laughed and finished her coffee.
It took about ten minutes to get to the shop and Alli pulled into the parking lot, "Text me when you're off and I'll come pick you up. Also don't plan on going home! You and I are having a girls night."
