I was walking home by myself from school when one of my classmates from high school approached.
"Hey, have you heard about Kimberly?" she asked.
It has been a long time since I talked with Kim. She became very busy with her studies and partying in the big city. She had relationships with one boy and another so she rarely comes home. If she did, we only said hi and hello's so I thought she was bored of me. I was the old-fashioned best friend she had also outgrown with. I wondered at first but I just let it be. All I knew at that time was I was sure that one day, she will still come back to me.
"Why? What's up with her?" I asked our nosy classmate.
"She got herself pregnant through a one-night stand. She didn't even know the guy who impregnated her!" our classmate exclaimed.
"OK." That was the only thing that came out from my mouth. I shot our classmate an I-don't-need-to-hear-anything-else-from-you look and hurriedly redirected my steps to Kim's house.
The moment I got to my best friend's house, I saw her mom bolting out from their front door. Anger was on her face and when she saw me, she put out a heavy sigh of slight relief.
"Please talk to your friend," she said breathing a lot of air as she was patting me on my shoulder.
So, it is true. Our nosy classmate did not pass a fake information. My very best friend Kimberly is pregnant. I didn't even experience to kiss a boy yet my best friend whom I grew up with is pregnant! I was greatly surprised and I didn't know how to face her. How will I talk to her? How will she react to every word that will come out from my mouth? So, I gathered all my strength as I stepped into their front door.
"Why are you here?" Kim asked as she saw me entering their house.
"Hi! You're home!" I said with a big smile.
"So, you're here to confirm what you've heard from people?" my best friend accused.
"Kim, I would just like to know if you're OK," I said calmly to her.
"OK? Do I look like OK? I'm only 18 and I have this stupid thing growing inside my body! Is that OK?!" she yelled angrily.
"Kim, don't say that. A baby is a blessing," I told her with the most positive tone I could muster.
"It's just so unfair why God is punishing me this way!" she said angrily.
"No. God is not punishing," I assured her reaching out for her hand.
She looked at me and suddenly burst into tears. I squeezed her hand and she suddenly hugged me so tightly.
"What happened to us?" she blurted out that question.
"You were enjoying your life and I am just here waiting for you," I explained.
"And you are still in love with that boy!" my best friend stated a truth.
"Haha! That's just same old me!" I accepted the truth only she could rub on my face and we laughed.
