"Hey, Lou! Are you free Saturday night?" a text message suddenly displayed on my smartphone as I was preparing for my next class. I was doing well as a university professor and I earned a well enough reputation in the world of academe in the big city.
"Hi, Kim! Just when did you get back?" I replied. Kim and her family moved abroad to her first ex-husband's hometown where she remarried another foreign guy whom she also divorced after two years of living together. She bore other children from each of her marriages and her firstborn was still under the loving care of her first husband. The child didn't want to live with her and she just let it be.
"I wanna introduce you to someone for a date," Kim replied. Without any interest, I grabbed my phone to see if I should reply. I was still not accustomed to people acting cupids to my love life, much more offer unsolicited advises to my single-dom.
"I'm afraid I've never been to a date and I don't know how to behave if ever I'm with a man," I typed and sent without thinking.
"What?! All these years in that city and you never went out for a date?! So, this will be exciting for your first time!" she replied.
"I'm a bit busy nowadays," I hastily texted to cut her off.
"Come on, take a break sometimes. I'll create a group chat for us three," she replied.
"Hi, George, meet Louela. Louela, meet George," my messenger popped that message out.
Oh, my! It was George she was referring to! George from high school whom my best friend also hanged out with. She said they were close but never did they have any interest with each other. But I was never friends with George. I only knew him by his name.
"Hello, Lou! Got a good night rest?" George replied.
"Hi! We already know each other," was all I could think of to chat.
"Alright, I'll leave you two now. Have fun! Goodbye!" my best friend left the group chat.
"So, how was your sleep?" George tried to open up a conversation.
"It was good," I replied.
"Have you ever peed in your dream?" he kidded. And from that one joke, the others followed.
George was such a natural. He sparked great conversations with me which made me hooked chatting with him. He was hilarious with a great sense of humor. I couldn't believe that someone had taken notice of me. Before, my long-time crush never saw me. I was invisible to his eyes. Now, George is seeing me. Oh, I was beyond flattered!
"Let's see each other for a date this time!" George typed in the wee hour of the evening when we had our all-night chatting.
"I'm afraid I can't," I replied. With him I knew it will be something different.
"Let's just hang around here in my place and watch movies," he enticed.
"I'm afraid of you," I frankly replied. My heart was thumping so loud of his invitation. He was quick I couldn't resist. He was engaging I became weak. He had some air of a bad boy which I liked most about him for taking advantage of me. Plus, he was married. That gave more than just a thrill to me!
