"I'M LIKE 95% sure i'm pan but i'm honestly not sure yet," jenny said to florence as they did their homework on her bed.

"sexuality is so confusing," florence said, flopping down on her friends bed, "i thought i was a lesbian for a while in 6th grade, but then i realized i'm bi."

jenny gave her a look of shock, "really? how come you never told me?"

"i'm not sure, i guess it never came up," florence shrugged, "anyways, i'm pretty sure lia likes girls too."

"wait, actually?" jenny responded, surprised.

"yeah, i accidentally caught her stalking sydney sweeney's instagram, and somehow we started talking about sexuality and she told me she was unlabeled," florence said, making her friend smile.

florence sat in the school library, waiting for lia and jenny to show up. she loved spending time in the library, it was a nice, quiet place where she could listen to folklore and read. at the larusso's she rarely ever had any time to sit by herself and read, anthony would always barge in and talk about how bored he was.

she was currently reading the book, the cruel prince, which jenny had suggested for her. she was almost finished with it and she couldn't wait to start the second one.

after sitting for almost 10 minutes, jenny finally showed up.

"hey," she smiled at her friend, "is lia here yet?"

florence set her book down, "not yet, but she should be here soon." almost right after she said that, the two girls saw lia walk through the library doors, dropping her book.

florence noticed anthony immediately pick up her dropped book, starting a conversation with her.

after their interaction, lia walked over to their table. "hey," she said setting her stuff down.

"so," jenny said, dragging the word out, "anthony."

lia gave her a look, "i just like him as a friend, besides i like someone else."

florence looked over, suddenly interested in the conversation, "who?"

"i'll tell you guys later," lia said looking across the room, "i'll be right back." she walked over to talk to kenny.

not even a minute after lia left, she came back. "sorry i left," she said, sitting down, "i was just checking in on him, apparently some kids cornered him when we went to the high school."

"shit," florence said, "i guess everyone has it out for the new kid."

the three of them were doing their work, florence noticed anthony staring over at them again, except this time he wasn't staring at lia.

he was looking at her.

after school, anthony somehow dragged her into going to miyagi-do karate with him and his dad.

"why are we here?" she asked him. he had never once showed an interest in karate before, and she would be surprised if he came here willingly.

"i might've told my dad a kid from cobra kai was bullying me," anthony explained. as soon as he said it she knew he was talking about kenny.

"so you lied?" she said nonchalantly.

"yeah basically," anthony sighed.

the two of walked over to where mr. larusso was standing and observed what everyone was doing. the first thing florence noticed was sam and some of the other students using weapons.

"this is pretty cool," anthony said after seeing everyone practicing. florence wasn't able to tell if he was being serious or not.

"i thought you'd like it," mr. larusso replied, happy with what his son thought.

"you never said i'd get to use weapons," he responded excitedly.

"you do realize we probably don't get to use weapons on our first day?" she asked him, not knowing if he was kidding or not.

"she's right," mr. larusso said, "you don't get to use them yet."

after talking to them, mr. larusso took the two of them to where his cars were left out with no covers the night before. he showed them how they would clean them before leaving to go help his wife at their car dealership.

"i can't believe we have to clean cars at karate," anthony said, scrubbing one of the doors, "i thought we would be fighting."

"just trust him," florence said, "i'm sure he knows what he's doing."

after 10 minutes of cleaning, anthony stopped. "you know what?" he said. "i'm just gonna call someone to clean it."

"come on, it's not that difficult," florence tried reasoning. before she could talk him out of it, he was already on the phone, calling someone to do his work for him.

"they actually did it," florence's heard the voice of daniel larusso as he got back from the dealership. "hey can i help you?" he noticed the guy anthony had called.

"almost done," he responded, "i'm just finishing up with the whitewalls. thankfully she helped so it wouldn't take so long." he gestured over to florence.

as soon as anthony walked out to where they were, florence knew she should let him and daniel talk. "i'm gonna go talk to sam in the back," she said awkwardly, leaving the two alone to talk.

"how did your first lesson go?" sam asked florence when she saw her walk out from the cars.

"it was a little boring," florence's said truthfully, "but i'm willing to keep trying."

"i thought that at first too. don't worry, it gets more fun as you keep going," sam said, grabbing her stuff. "i was going to stop somewhere to get fro-yo, do you wanna come with?"

"yeah, that sounds fun," florence smiled. sam was always nice to her, she treated her like a sister, but they had never hung out just the two of them.

after getting fro-yo, sam took florence to a gas station to get some snacks. while they were walking around, she saw someone she hadn't seen or heard from in a while.
