THE SUN was just peeking over the tops of tall buildings in the distance when I looked out my 4th floor window. I was going in for a couple interviews that day, and hopefully would have a job by the end of the day.

I got up out of bed and began to pick out clothes. I wasn't really a "trendy" type, so I went with a collared shirt, sweater and dark jeans. After attempting to put my hair up, I gave up and let my natural coils pouf out.

(time skip to starbucks bc i'm lazy and this was literally a dream that I had a couple nights ago, so I don't really remember everything. also listen to the song above, i listened to it and muffin on repeat while writing this, they're so good! has nothing to do with the story tho)

        Guess what?

I got a job at Starbucks! It's cool because I've always wanted to work there, even since I was a kid. The manager asked me to start right then as barista, and I agreed.

-------

When I got home I noticed a delivery box sitting outside the two bedroom apartment I shared with my parents. The top was cut open a little, and I picked it up, noticing a note taped to the side.

I'm not sure what I was expecting from a slightly open suspicious looking box, but it certainly was not the cutest little ginger cat in the world! I inspected the note, immediately recognizing my cousin Gem's horrific handwriting. I could barely read it, but I managed to decode her message.

        Dear Bella,

My coworker Tom found this cat wandering around outside and I decided to take him for a little bit. Eventually I decided I couldn't do this anymore, and searched for a new owner for him. I figured you would be super excited to finally have a cat of your own, so I am gifting him to you! To my knowledge, he does not have a name or any vaccination background.

        Love ya, Gem

I shook my head, smiling, and picked up the cat.

"Hi kitty," I began to pet his head, causing him to purr in my arms. "We're gonna get you set up in a bit, okay?" He looked up at me with beautiful smoky grey-blue eyes, the pupils widening as he took in my face. He seemed to almost nod before leaping out of my arms to explore his new home.

(another time skip brought to you by me getting the most amazing comebacks in bed at 3 am)

After getting my cat to stay in one spot for a whole hour (enabling us to have some quality bonding time), I sat up, disturbing him from where he had been half napping.(you know that thing cats do where they are asleep but they wake up at like the slightest sound? that.)

"We need to get you food, buddy," I yawned. He mewed in protest, pushing his paw against my chest as if to hold me down, and crawled on top of me, stretched out, and fell asleep.

Come dinnertime, I had procrastinated so much that I had to feed him from my dinner, which was a trash burger from some place down the street. He seemed to enjoy it, while my taste buds rejected it entirely. I ended up giving him the whole patty and just eating fries and what was left of my burger.

------

I took him to the vet a couple days later, knowing that he needed shots and paperwork done if I was going to properly adopt him. He would also need a name, and I had no idea what to call him.

The vet did a checkup on him and made sure everything was okay. She said he was about 2 years old, barely an adult. She also did his shots and everything, but at the end she asked to speak to me.

"I found an abnormality," she said. I begged to know what it was, but even she didn't really know. "The only explanation I have for this is....um.." she lowered her voice, "your cat is a neko."
