"CHARLIE? I like that name," I remarked, already starting to feel more comfortable around this cat-boy I had just met.

        He chuckled softly, nervously. "Thanks."

"Do you like pasta? I'm making spaghetti." Charlie shrugged, his cute little ginger ears twitching and his tail swishing around his legs. "I'm okay for now, maybe later?" I nodded, dishing out a portion for myself and striding to the living room, gesturing for him to follow me.

I ate in silence while Charlie stared out the window, watching the birds play with each other. While he was thus occupied, I studied him.

He looked to be in his early twenties, but for me it was hard to tell because he was just so CUTE. Everything about him, from the way his nose scrunched up when he giggled at the birds' antics, to the way his tail and ears twitched, attracted me. And the fact that I had already seen him naked was no help. I mean, I used to read a bunch of fanfiction about neko boys but I never thought I would actually get to meet one, much less have one as a pet!

I was seriously having second thoughts about adopting him, though. Like, he's human. Wouldn't that be slavery or something?

I shook myself out of my thoughts to find Charlie gazing at me, obviously studying me as I had him. I wondered what he thought of me. He stood up and as he sat next to me I heard his soft voice ask, "Will you pet me?"

Nodding, I began to run my fingers through his flaxen hair, petting his ears. And I heard a deep, rumbling purr erupt from his chest when I scratched the sweet spot behind them. He kept purring, pushing his head into my hand when I showed signs of stopping.

------

When I noticed my parents pulling in to the parking lot of our apartment complex, I reluctantly told Charlie we had to stop. He whined because he didn't want to be a cat again just yet. But I insisted. (for plot reasons ok don't ask ;)

After he changed back, I quickly confiscated the clothes he had been wearing, dumping them on my pile of laundry that so desperately needed to be washed. Charlie, in cat form, followed me.

(omigosh guys i just realized we need a litterbox'n'stuff to make this look realistic to Bella's parents, but no i will not include that because.......well, you should know by now that i'm extremely lazy)

"Hi mom! Hi dad! How was your trip?" I greeted my parents cheerfully. Charlie jumped down off Dad's favorite armchair to welcome the newcomers as well. He wove between their legs, meowing.

"It was good!" Mom told me. "We fixed up the new house, and soon we'll be able to move there! How was your time here? I see you have a new friend."

"Yeah, this is Charlie. Gem found him outside and I have decided to adopt him." The aforementioned cat jumped into my lap and curled up, intending to sleep. I thought about telling my parents that Charlie was actually a neko, but they've always looked down on nekos as if they were inferior to humans. I didn't agree with their beliefs, and actually liked nekos. I'd only met one before Charlie, and she was really nice, but my parents scared her so much that she ran away.

"Achoo!" My dad suddenly sneezed. My eyes widened, remembering that he was allergic. "Dad-" "If you want to keep him, he stays in your room," Mom instructed. I nodded and the cat looked up at me sadly from his spot on my lap; I shrugged down at him in a what can we do? gesture.

------

Bedtime came. And Charlie had to sleep with me - in my room, not....that - I put blankets on the floor for him in cat form and he curled up on it. And I thought everything would be fine.

        But it wasn't.
