Kitty (A CG5 fanfic)

Chapter VI

CHARLIE slept with me again that night, and the next. Each night I read to him before bed - quietly, so as not to wake my parents. 

        As I learned his habits, likes and dislikes, I realized we had more in common than I had thought. We both loved chocolate and cookies, he liked black as much as I did, and we absolutely loved snow days when we could stay inside, cuddle up with a blanket and guzzle hot chocolate.

        Naturally, my parents began to wonder why I still hadn't bought Charlie cat food or a litter box. The former was more explainable, he just liked human food better, but the litter box? I seriously had to buy one so we could keep up the ruse. I got him a simple enclosed one, but dang some of those were expensive!

        Charlie, of course, had to actually use the litter box for it to work. He tried it a couple times, and told me he didn't really like it. But, because my parents were home a lot more and he had to stay a cat, he was forced to use it more than he wanted.

        Reader, I loved him. I realized it one night while he was snoring softly next to me. He began to move, mumbling in his sleep and reaching out for me. I held him through his nightmare, cooing soft comforts in his ear, until he woke up, clutching at my shirt. When he peered up at me with wide, teary eyes, I pulled him close and rubbed his back soothingly, my own eyes filling as I listened to him cry. 

        When he was finished, the tide of his tears subsiding, still I held him, until he fell asleep again in my arms.
