I walked into Vienna's house and locked the door behind me, I darted up the stairs at the sound of the bird in the walkway.
I hummed to myself as I cracked the door open to Vincenzo's room.
The two Rottweilers run towards me, barking, but they settle when they realize it's just me.

I came prepared for them as I always did with treats and sausages.

I take the treats out of my bag and hold it out to them, they eat the treat from my hand and then they go back to playing with their toy.
To them I belong here, they don't know the truth.

I take a deep breath and plop myself on his bed, I crawl up to his pillow and sniff it, barely resisting the urge to suffocate myself with the scent of him wafting off the navy blue bedsheet.

I get up from the bed remembering that Vienna will be home soon, and although she invited me over, I imagine that she wanted me to stay at the door until she returned from the grocery store with her mother.

I walked into Vincenzo's closet, the large room filled to the brim with designer clothes and fancy gold watches I don't think I'd ever even seen him wear.
I looked over to the side and saw a collection of laundry carts labeled by color.

I grabbed the first hoodie I could see, a plain unrecognizable black one to my steadily growing collection of Vincenzo's clothes I had saved away in my suitcase under my bed.

I bring it to my nose and lean against the door as my whole body melts.

I fold the hoodie neatly and place it in my school bag and begin walking downstairs, the bird once again chirps as I walk back outside the house.

Vienna is the one behind the wheel, I can tell because she almost hits their mall box multiple times before she pulls out and tries again.
She finally gets it right and reverses all the way to the garage.

"Hi," she's out of the car and waving at me.
"Hey." I greeted her.

Her best friend Serena's head pops out of the car and she makes a weird face before waving too.
Soon all three of them are out of the car helping Vienna take out groceries. I stood up and walked over but Kin held out his hand. "We've got it all. " he says and I nod.

Vienna comes and opens the door and we all walk in one by one.

They set the groceries down in the kitchen and start unbagging and placing them where they belong as if they knew every inch of the place.

"It's my birthday on Friday." Vienna announced before walking into the pantry to put away the pasta.
"Oh, happy early birthday ." I said trying to sound cheerful.
"Nope save all the birthday wishes for my actual birthday, please and thank you." Vienna said in a joking tone.

"We were thinking about throwing a party, are you in?" She asked and I placed my hand at the back of my neck and frown.
"My dad isn't really letting me go out, especially not to parties." I said with an awkward chuckle.

"I was thinking that, because you're always saying your dad doesn't want you being late or he won't let you hang out. My mom was very strict before she met my friends and realized how almost boringly responsible Serena is." Vienna said before hovering a finger in her mouth and faking a gag.
"We were thinking if maybe I asked your dad it'd be okay." Vienna concluded.

"Maybe, we can try."

"Should we do it now since we still have the car?" Vienna asked "is he home?"

"Yeah."

Vienna meeting father could go horribly wrong at any time. What if she could feel the unresolved tension around us? What if my dad said something.. try to scare her away from me, it wasn't above him.
