CHAPTER 4, dead visions in your name

A FEW YEARS AGO

When the girl entered the classroom, everyone stopped to look at her, Nathan whistled as she walked past him and sat down behind him. Of course Phoebe had an odd appearance, big eyes, a face full of piercings, and a mouth that seemed a little too wide.

But what drew attention wasn't that, no, it was her hair so disheveled that it created an unusual volume and the sunglasses, it didn't take a genius to figure out she had a hangover.

   — You look beautiful today, ma'am — Nathan commented, laughing.

   — With all my respect, fuck you — she replied in a slurred voice as she adjusted herself in the uncomfortable chair, which, somehow, she managed to almost lie down in it.

   — Why didn't you skip class?

   — My dad decided to drop me off today — she took off her sunglasses, revealing last night's smudged black makeup around her eyes. — He left me at the door and waited for me to come in before he left.

   — Did he see you coming home yesterday? — Joey asked, almost laughing.

   — No, I'm glad, but I'm never going up that window drunk again. I don't know how the fuck you do it.

   — I'm trained.

The teacher came into the room, a little late for class, started saying several things that didn't make any sense to Phoebe, she didn't even remember what the subject was. English? No, history... What kind of history talks about square numbers?

She ended up falling asleep while pretending to write something down in her notebook, she only woke up when the bell rang, she didn't even know how the teacher hadn't woken her up. She tried to walk through the halls to find her other class, but the dizziness was so bad that she couldn't even walk without stopping to lean against the wall.

   — Hey, Fee, are you okay? — Nathan asked when he noticed her friend leaning her back against the wall and lowering her head.

Fee was the nickname given to her by him because of the pronunciation of her name: Fee-Be. It was a lot easier just calling her Fee.

   — No... — she grumbled.

Joey looked around, seeing the hallway full of students hurrying to their classrooms, an idea popped into his mind. He took the girl's hand and pulled her away.

   — Let's get out of here.

Even though Nathan wanted to walk faster, Phoebe couldn't, so he walked as fast as her limp body would allow and, in a few minutes, they were already on the sports court, there were some students walking towards the locker room.
