(James)
"Time for school James." I open my eyes and groan as my mother opens the curtains, streaming in the bright daylight.
"Do I have to go?" She looks at me, a slight frown on her face.
"You should go to school, James. I know your future lies with ruling the pack, but that doesn't give you an excuse for skipping school."
"But, I don't want to." She shrugs and turns to leave the room.
"I want you to go, James. But, it's up to you." I sigh and jump out of bed, knowing that if mum wants me to go, then I'm going. I quickly pull on some clothes before heading downstairs to the pack kitchen.
When I enter all I see is chaos. Parents are running around, growling and shouting at their pups, families are sitting and chatting as people walk around grabbing food from the cooking area. I walk through the room with a smile, it might be chaos but it's home. I walk in between tables until I reach the table that my family is sitting at and sink into the seat beside my mum, who beams at me before turning back to my dad.
"Dude!" I turn at the shout just as Charlie, my best friend, comes charging at me.
"What?" I yell back at him, earning a soft slap on the arm from my mother.
"Don't shout so loud, James." I give her a sheepish grin before turning back to Charlie.
"What's up, Charles?" He growls and glares at me.
"Don't call me that." He says. I just shrug and he shakes it off. "I just realised that in one year and two months, you'll become Alpha of this pack."
I roll my eyes and shake my head at him. That's his exciting news? That's the only reason he came to talk to me? I could be scoffing down the bacon and eggs waiting on the table for me, but instead I have to listen to Charlie's craziness.
"So what?" I ask as I turn to my food.
"So..." He says as he sinks down next to me and leans against the table. "In a year and two months, I'll become your second and command and everybody will have to respect and listen to me." He grins at the thought.
"Unless I tell them otherwise," I reply with a smirk. His mouth drops opens and I laugh at his dumbfounded expression.
"But... but..." He stutters, opening and closing his mouth. I put the last of the food in my mouth, give my mum a quick kiss before standing and turning back to Charlie.
"I was kidding, Charles." I say before shutting his mouth, turning and walking out of the kitchen area.
I walk outside and lean against the wall, watching a few of the pack members as they walk out of the forest, most likely returning from a morning walk. I smile at them as they pass by, one of them, a girl slightly younger than me, blinks her eyes rapidly as she passes and gives me a flirtatious smile. I just roll my eyes and smile back as they pass. Not long after they walk inside, someone else exits the pack house and punches my shoulder. I turn with a growl to see myself face-to-face with a grinning Charlie.
"You're an ass, James." I roll my eyes and glare at him, hitting him back.
"Doesn't give you any right to attack me." He scoffs and throws my schoolbag at me. I catch him and sling it over my shoulder.
"I didn't attack you. I barely even touched you." He says as we descend the front stairs and walk across the long driveway.
"You hit me hard, Charles. I'll probably have a bruise now." I rub my arm, pouting at him.
"Right, whatever you say." He smirks at me and I grin, shoving him as we leave the pack house driveway and walk beside the road, towards school.

The first period passes by uneventfully and when the bell goes I rush out of the classroom and straight to the cafeteria. Eager to eat something, even if it is crappy school food. There is already a line by the time I reach the cafeteria and I join it, bouncing on the balls of my feet as I wait in anticipation. Finally, after what feels like forever, I get to the front of the line.
"What can I get for you, lovely?" I look up at the grey haired cafeteria lady. She grins at me and I quickly look at my options.
I grab a plastic bowl of chicken noodles before grabbing a cup of jelly and a bottle of chocolate milk. I pay for it and weave my way through the crowded cafeteria. When I reach my table, I sink down and wait for my friends to join me as I scoop out the jelly from the cup and look around the room. Soon two of my friends, John and Michael, sit down next to me and talk about the latest basketball game. I listen to their argument over who the best player was when, suddenly, a strong scent of cherries fills the air. I look around for the source, hoping that Charlie might have gotten me some.
Instead, I find my eyes settling on a gorgeous girl sitting alone in the back of the cafeteria. Her wonderful light blonde hair is pulled tight into a ponytail and she plays with the end of it as she looks at the table in front of her. After a moment, she looks around the cafeteria and I feel sadness rush over me. I watch her for another few moments and just decide that I should go and talk to her when someone grabs my shoulder, making me jump and turn.
"Dude, there's a new girl that started. She can't talk and..."
"You mean her?" I interrupt and nod my head at the girl in the corner. He glances over and nods as he slides down next to me.
"Yeah, that's her. Her name's Sapphira, cool right?" I nod and look back at her, watching her as she rubs her hand up and down the inside of her arm. "Although, in all honesty, she's kind of a bitch." My head snaps around and I glare at Charlie, forcing myself not to punch him.
"Shut up, Charlie." I growl at him. He looks at me with a slight frown, before his eyes widen and his head bows slightly. I close my eyes and bring my wolf back under control before opening them again. "Sorry dude, I don't know what came over me."
"It's all good, James." He looks at me and smirks. I raise my eyebrows in response. "I have an idea of what might have happened."
"What?" I ask, eager to hear his crazy-ass hypothesis.
"I believe that the weird mute girl over in the corner, is your mate." I stare at him before swinging my gaze back to Sapphira. Is it possible that this new girl is my mate?
