(Sapphira)

"Mummy! Daddy! Look at me!" I scream as I push for a higher height on the playground swing. The world is just a colourful blur as I come back down, shrieking at the feeling in my stomach.

"Just be careful, sweetheart." I hear my mother call out to me and I grin as I drag my feet forwards, trying desperately to go higher still. I swing, back and forth, back and forth as the sun starts setting. The sky turns a pink-ish colour as the ground begins to darken, making the world seem even more wonderful at my swinging speed.

"Saph, it's time to head home now, baby girl." I hear my dad call out.

I groan in disappointment, but start to slow myself down, dragging my pink sneakers across the ground until I'm slow enough to jump off. As my feet hit the ground they buckle slightly and I sway before regaining my footing with a grin.

"Be careful, Sapphira." I hear my mother call out and I smile sheepishly as I make my way over to my parents.

"Sorry, mummy." I give her a hug, wrapping my arms either side of her protruding belly.

She gives me a quick hug back before my father grabs me and lifts me up and over his shoulder, making my hair fall in front of my face. I squeal as he begins to walk, banging my small fists gently on his back until he places me back down, keeping a strong hold on one of my hands. We reach our car and I scramble into the back as daddy helps mummy in. Once we're all buckled in daddy begins driving, humming the tune of the song on the radio.

"Mummy?" I ask and she hums in answer. "How much longer until I'm a big sister?"

I smile when I hear mummy laugh and daddy chuckle. They look at each other before locking hands with one another. Mummy looks over her seat at me, a smile on her face and bright sparkle in her eye.

"Not until after you turn six, sweetheart." I pout, wishing it would be sooner.

"Couldn't you just get the baby now, mummy?" I ask, earning another laugh from my parents.

"It doesn't work that way, baby girl." My dad laughs with a chuckle. "When you're older, your mother will explain everything." I shrug and grin.

"Ok." I say happily.

I look out the side window at the dark streets as daddy drives. The occasional soft light comes from a house or a streetlight as we drive past. I can see mommy out of the corner of my eye, her eyes are shut as she gives another small laugh. As my eyes latch onto her, a bright light comes tearing towards us as a loud deafening noise fills the air.

A second later I feel as if I'm tipped on the side as pain explodes through my body. I scream and hear mummy and daddy yelling but I can't concentrate on them, only the pain.

A loud rapping noise wakes me and I sit up with a scream, calling for mummy as I look around. I give another small shriek when my door bursts open and my father rushes into my room, looking around before latching his gaze onto me.

"Are you alright?" He asks as he makes his way towards me, sitting down on the bed in front of me. I nod and stare at the sheets.

"I'm fine, just a nightmare." I say softly as I try to hold back the tears that threaten to fall.

"It was about that night again, wasn't it?" I pause before giving a small nod, squeezing my eyes shut to stop the tears. I feel my father grab me and pull me closer, hugging me. "I'm so sorry you had to go through that, baby girl. I wish that I could change the

"It's alright, dad." I whisper. "It wasn't your fault, we both know that."

I feel him nod against me before standing, telling me that I need to get ready for school. As soon as the door closes I climb out of bed and quickly dress, quickly pulling my hair up before leaving the room. As I walk downstairs and grab an apple from the counter, all I can think about is the bright light. The light and the final moment I saw my mummy's beautiful smile.

"You ready to go, Sapphira?" I nod and throw the barely touched apple in the bin before following dad out of the house and getting in the passenger seat of the car. As we pull in front of the school, my dad grabs my arm and I look at him questioningly. "Are you sure you're alright?"

"I'm fine, honest." I say before sliding out of the car and shutting the door softly behind him.

As soon as the car pulls away from the curb I turn to look at the huge building in front of me. With a silent sigh, I grip the strap of my bag and head towards the school as the bell rings.
